Nifty and affordable external speaker.

(4 out of 5) by Matthew Skarritt on Feb 14, 2010
Sound quality is excellent FOR SPEAKERS THIS SMALL. I think many people who are very disappointed with the sound quality from speakers of this size expect way too much. I will say the volume or max volume is a little less than I anticipated, but you can increase the volume of the device it's plugged into to compensate. But overall, sound quality is better than most other mini-speakers out there.

The overall design is very nice. I have to say as a warning: this unit is much bigger and bulkier than I envisioned. It measures about 5.5 in. in length and is about the same size as my iPod touch. You'd be hard-pressed to fit this into your jeans pocket. It's not as 'mini' as some other mini-speakers, but has better sound quality than other speakers. It's all about what's important to you.

The only real negative I have with this device (and it's an annoying negative) is that the connection cord that plugs into your device is WAY too short! 8 inches to be precise. That's not very long if your holding your device and want to set the speakers say in your lap. I don't know if this would have prevented me from buying this speaker, but it's a real drawback and poor design.

Overall these speakers fit the bill for the price.

The Good and the Bad....

(4 out of 5) by T. Bundrick on Feb 13, 2010 (New York, NY USA)
I purchased these very tiny speakers several weeks ago at a local electronics store and ALMOST returned them, but didn't. The sound from this tiny, very portable unit is very rich. I can easily hear music or spoken word (I like to listen to THIS AMERICAN LIFE and Garrison Keillor's show on my NPR app for the Iphone), and I can listen to a range of fifty to sixty feet away with the door open. The reason I almost returned them? The unit ate a set of batteries up in a matter of a day or two because I laid it down on a counter, with the power button and front nameplate facing the counter, and the power went on. ALWAYS check that the blue power light is not on when not in use! The power button is very sensitive and turns on a little too easily. But the light is very bright and easily visible even through the slim black carry bag, so you SHOULD know if it's on....unless of course you lay it down on a surface the wrong way. I'm glaad I opted for the silver speakers, instead of the blue, because knowing my unerring self, I would have not noticed when the blue power light was on. Now, a month later, I am glad I kept the speaker. I tried the round Altec Lansing portable unit (shaped like a hockey puck) at my local Apple store, and found this speaker to be better for my needs (especially spoken word). Very good value for it's incredible performance. Recommended.....

Good product, especially for the price.

I recommend this product for anyone looking for a small, portable device to play music off an MP3 player. Put out enough sound to play over a crowd of 20 people comfortably.

Not GREAT sound, but no rattle our audible audio issues.

Full sound in a small package

(5 out of 5) by William Goldberg on Feb 4, 2010 (Harrisonburg, VA United States)
I was quite impressed upon the first use of these speakers. I had expected the sound to be somewhat tinny, but it was full and deep. Volume at high level produced no distortion and a clear sound.

My one negative comment would be that the power button is awkwardly placed. When I got to my hotel and discovered dead batteries I realized that the speakers in my suitcase had been jostled and the power button must have been pushed.

I resolved this by putting a piece of paper between one of the batteries and it's terminal whenever I traveled so that there was no electrical connection. I pulled the paper out when I got to my next destination and the batteries were fine.

Without a lock, I don't really see an easier way of fixing this problem.

Overall, an excellent and highly recommended product!

Great find

Works great. I read the other positive reviews before I bought this item and agree that the sound quality is pretty good for the size and price but the on/off switch is too easily pressed accidentally.
