Looks nice, sounds great

(5 out of 5) by Joshua Smith on Nov 28, 2008 (Barre, MA USA)
You can tell from the pictures that this looks nice, but I couldn't find any reviews saying how it sounded. I bought it anyway, and although I'm a bit of an audio snob, I can tell you that it sounds excellent! Most iPod amp/speakers are wimpy because they're too compact. This has the heft to carry a big subwoofer, which together with good high-range speakers gives a room-filling sound with surprisingly good imaging (given that it is throwing from a single point). The bass is actually a little too strong, compared to the highs, but setting the iPod EQ to "Base Reduce" solved that.

The remote works well, and the volume knob on top is worthy of Apple in its simplicity. Since the amp and speakers are matched, you can crank it all the way up and you won't hear any distortion (or risk breaking the speaker cones!). It came with a bunch of adapters for the different size iPods, and I found the right one through trial-and-error.

All-in-all, an excellent replacement for my previous frankenstein (a small Altec Lansing system, sitting on top of a 100 pound subwoofer!).

Best kept secret for audiophiles!

(4 out of 5) by G. Ella on Mar 5, 2009
We searched for months for a stereo system for our medium sized family room. We ran into this while at the mall and it sounded great in the store (even with ambient noise). We decided to try it with iPod touch and it sounded better at home (and fits perfectly in the corner). It became our home stereo with iPod touch (apps allows you to get radio too(WiFi needed)). This is a "best kept secret" for audiophiles!!! I never even ran into iDesign Tower during my extensive research of stereo systems. My only recommendation is an inputs to connect my TV. iDesign and iPod touch=$500... great price!

Great sound, great space saver

(5 out of 5) by James M. Raguindin on Mar 2, 2009 (La Quinta, CA USA)
I thoroughly enjoy the sound from this tower and the space I save with it. It is very stylish and compliments the room.

The only (minor) negative is the unit should have slots to hold several Ipods, and the remote. Other than that, I am very happy with it.

We downsized our house and those monster tower speakers from the 80's were just way too big. Great sound if one doesn't mind giving up half the living room.

We wanted music in the house without sacrificing too much in the way of money, sound quality or space. I checked out the reviews for this speaker and based upon all the positive reviews I bought one.

Several days later a fairly heavy, big box arrived. It turns out that much of the weight and size is due to all the packaging.

I plugged in my iPod and the speaker to the electric outlet. No sound. I pressed the buttons a few times and turned the volume up but still no sound. I get out the owners manual (99% of which are legal disclaimers) and found that there's on/off switch in the back. Doh!

We listened to a few songs and we weren't impressed. The volume and quality was fairly low ever though I rip with very high bps. Tried another album. Ah-hah! Very nice volume and quality.

Although you can't crank up the sound up so loud that the windows would vibrate and shatter, if you live in an apartment and run these speakers at the highest volume the neighbors would be calling the super or the police.

The size is perfect for us. It takes up very little floor space and is light-weight enough so that we can bring it upstairs or to another room. With our monster speakers and dual-amped setup, the sound filled the upstairs; these won't.

Using the speakers is as complicated as plugged in your iPod, pushing the on/off button on top of the speaker and adjusting the volume.

While these won't ever satisfy the audiophile, these are a great compromise for the space challenged. But then again, this didn't cost several thousands of dollars.

The speakers keep the iPod charged so that the speakers don't use and wear down the batteries.

For the price, we're extremely pleased with the product.
