Very simple to use. Good quality prints.

I bought this printer for my grandmother who loves taking snapshots at every outing that involves more than 2 people. I was looking for a printer that would print shots cheaply, but good quality, and equally important, was incredibly easy to use. This printer I think hit all three of those goals.

The quality really was very good and will work great for allowing her (or anyone else) to print some of her pictures to send to friends or put on the fridge. This probably has much higher quality that those uses would really even require. As for ease of use, I admit I'm a bit tech savvy and had no problem using it, but even my grandmother (less tech savvy) seemed to be able to understand with relative ease how to use the printer.

One note, make sure to give the printer some time to print, you'll know when your print is done. In the printing process it spits the print out 3 times prematurely after each ink color before it sucks it back it (automatically) to add the next layer.

My only concern was that you have to buy the ink and paper together in these cartridges. Having to toss the cartridge and replace it when the ink is out (but still has paper) is not exactly green, or cheap. But, it does have the benefit of being only one thing that my grandmother will have to know how to change! If you are also considering this for someone who will need you to show them how to use it, another nice feature was that it came with a sample 5 picture cartridge, so after just a few prints you could show someone how to change the cartridge themselves (with additionally purchased cartridges of course). I thought this was a nice bonus.

One other note, it worked well with the Canon Selphy compatible camera we got her with not hard setup what-so-ever. We just connected the camera and printer with supplied cord (with the camera?) and the printer found it very quickly. Very nice feature.

Canon Selphy ES3 Printer

(5 out of 5) by J. Sikes on Feb 7, 2009 (VA.)
This is a joy to own! I can print pictures on the spot in 55 sec. and it is so simply to use. The pictures have great color and are a good size. With the film and ink combined I do not have to be concerned about low ink producing a poor picture and I do not have to add ink to the printer. Great product. It's size fits anywhere and is easy to carry by design.

Excellent little printer!

(5 out of 5) by G. Stojanowski on Jan 24, 2009 (Sierra Vista, AZ)
The Canon Selphy ES3 is an outstanding portable 4x6 printer! Since the day I received it, the output has been flawless and the interfaces (stand-alone & linked to PC) have worked without a hitch! The bundled Ulead software, while pretty basic, is straight forward and more than adequate for 99.9% of all tasks. The quality of its dye sublimation prints is as good as - if not better than - "lab" prints, and very quick (well under a min per print). Editing, adjustments, cropping, etc. tasks are easy enough for any snapshot shooter to master and should suffice in a wide range of shooting situations or for special purpose, e.g., birthday, trip, or party printing.
Overall, an outstanding product that fits its intended purpose flawlessly.

Simple Little Machine

(5 out of 5) by E. Zee on Jun 30, 2009 (NYC)
Since the first day I got this printer I've been using it. It's very easy to use. The changing of the toner and paper is a cinch.

Here are some hints for Mac users:
- iPhoto and Adobe Photoshop does print the images darker. You can set the brightness slightly higher in the print setup window. I have it on +2. It's a little bit darker and sometimes the color is more cooler.

- Also use Adobe Indesign to do the layout. The software is design industry standard and matches the color and brightness a lot better.

Bluetooth does not work on a Mac but Mobile phones are ok. Not sure about Windows/PC.

Plugged in my Sony GC1 camera (Picture Bridge) and worked flawlessly.

Bought the B&W card set but haven't used it. I heard it's really good. It's pretty expensive for a 25 pack.

There are also a lot of functions I haven't really explore them as of yet but I'm sure my family and friends would love to try them.

If you like simplicity. Prefer small 4x6 prints then larger prints. This machine will do the job.
