The picture is good but I am very disapointed the sound quality (wish I had gone with my 2nd choice the Sony Z series).

Great TV, the right choice for me

(5 out of 5) by Don on Feb 14, 2009
I have had this set for a little over two weeks. I upgraded from my old Toshiba 32" Tube TV and this is my first LCD. I get my signal via an over the air antenna and the Hi def picture on this TV is simply amazing. I did not professionally calibrate it but the picture seems very, very natural looking. I have not had any problems with the remote at all and it works well controlling both the TV and my DVD player.
I have hooked up my laptop to it and am hooked on how good it looks on the screen. This is something that I can already see our family using a lot.

We use the TV in a large well lit family room with very large windows to the side of the TV. I was worried about reflections especially during the day but haven't noticed it all when the TV is on, it is really bright and I have not noticed any problems.

All in all, although I have had limited experience with LCD/Plasma TVs I heartily recommend this one. It is amazingly thin (looks even thinner than it did when I saw it in a store) at less than 2". The red is very muted and actually I wouldn't mind having it come out a bit more than it does, it is definitely less than on on the 650 and 750 models.

My only complaint is that the menu system is a bit clunky and has taken me a while to get used to finding the settings I need. I am getting it, it just seems like it should be a bit easier.

ELEGANT, MODERN, BEAUTIFUL

(5 out of 5) by Boris on Feb 12, 2009
This TV looks like a modern piece of art. It looks amazing.... just sitting there turned off! Then when you turn it on and the picture comes on, I feel like I've been in the dark ages for the last 2 decades. I never thought that a picture could look this good. The picture and the sound are jaw dropping! I feel like I've been punishing my self by not getting an HD TV. Buy this TV you will not be disappointed. It is money well spent.

Great value on Amazon

(5 out of 5) by Mario Hernandez on Feb 8, 2009 (Rancho Mirage, CA)
I was looking for a good quality flat screen and had been thinking of buying the 50" Pioneer Kuro. It wouldn't fit in our entertainment center so I went shopping and was recommennded by several friends to check out the Samsung LN46850. I found that the LCD picture was sharp & bright, good features for our well-lit room. The price was about 1/3 of the price of the Kuro. I tried to buy local and when the salesman told me they had a price guarantee, I checked Amazon and went back with the price. Of course he stammered and made excuses but could not match it. I ordered online and saved several hundred dollars buying from Amazon. It was easy to setup and mount. The built-in sound is not too good, but I hooked up some powered JBL's and they work fine.

Samsung LN46A850

(5 out of 5) by M. Zimmer on Jan 19, 2009 (Waterloo IA USA)
This was my first LCD purchase after researching reviews from various online reporting sites. I am not dissapointed at all. TV showed up in great shape from the CEVA shippers. Hookup is greatly simplified with the HDMI connectors. A stunningly beautiful picture right out of the box. I like sports and do not notice the stutter movement Ive heard about with the 60Hz refresh rate LCD's. SPorts are an entirely new TV world to me now. The things you notice in HD are amazing. I have not had any problem with the TV at all. The online menu is easy to follow. There is a color settings learning curve if you are a novice like I was, but the factory settings out of the box look wonderful. I cannot think of anything negative at this time.
