Mirror Mirror On The Wall
This TV IS the fairest of them all! Great priced high value television with fantastic color and picture quality. I currently have no desire to upgrade to HD programming with this set, that's how nice the picture quality is. No faded blacks in this set, easy to calibrate, easy to love. I'm not sure why Samsung has such a shoddy picture when you first connect the set, however as I mentioned before, calibration is easy and you should easily be able to get a good picture. The reduced glare is a huge plus as I have it opposite three very large south facing windows and on the sunniest of days, while there is some reflection, the glare reduction is superior to a regular CRT television(although there is some, but the compromise to this is a sony matte finish glare reduction and the color quality is greatly inferior). The thin frame is AMAZING, wall mounted it sticks out less than 4" from the wall. Who wants to hang something that sticks out 6-10" from the wall, that's just gaudy. The TV is gorgeous and definitely screams quality. The remote is large but I don't mind, and for those of you who do you can ultimately purchase a universal if desired. I have dish network and have no problems with the remote not working the first few minutes of the television being on however I do not have an HD receiver so this may be why. Honestly even if I had that problem I wouldn't care enough to complain. After paying only 1589.00 for this set on amazon(after considering the $200 nfl gift certificate I received) I challenge anyone to find a better quality set for even close to this amount of $$, or a thinner set. My husband and are are thrilled, we highly recommend!

Samsung LN46A850 Review
This television has a terrific picture and fairly good sound. The speakers are located in the rear of the unit, so the sound can be a little hard to adjust to as it seems to be bouncing off of the walls. I have this television sitting on a wood stand about 18" away from the wall so this could explain the echo like sound. If this tv were mounted directly on the wall, the sound probably would be better. I didn't buy this tv for the sound as much as the picture. The picture is awesome. Deep dark blacks and an extremely high contrast ratio makes the movies come alive. It is like you are actually in the movie itself! I have it hooked up to a Dish Network VIP722 HD DVR receiver via an HDMI cable and there are some problems. It appears that this television produces some sort of infrared interference when it is first turned on. This causes some of the remote control functions (like changing the channels or bringing up the guide) on my satellite box to not work for about the first two-three minutes. This is extremely annoying as this is exactly what you want to do when you first turn on your television. After a couple of minutes though, the problem seems to go away, and it doesn't come back until you turn off the tv for awhile. It appears to happen when the television is cold, when it has been off for several hours, and does not happen if it has been on and then turned off for a few mintues. I suspect that the inference is being created by something on the tv that goes away after it has had time to warm up. I have updated the television's firmware to the latest version (1004 dated 10-20-2008), but this did not fix the IR interference problem. After speaking with Samsung support several time, the only recourse they can offer is to send out a repair technician to try and fix the problem. If you use DISH Network, I would not buy this tv until this issue has been fixed.
Don't waste your money on buying the Wireless Link stick adapter for this television as it only connects the television to the internet for the InfoLink function. If you want to stream content from your pc, you will need to hook both the television and your pc up to you network via hard wired ethernet cable. According to a Samsung technician I spoke with, Samsung's PC Share Manager software does not work with "wireless" network connections for the pc or tv. I can't believe that they would not make this software function over a wireless network! In addition, the televsion's wireless network key setup software only accepts a 26 character key, so if you wireless network key is longer, it will not work. You will need to shorten up the lenght of your key in order to get this working.
These issues are why I gave this television only 3 stars.

splendiferous
I was thinking for a long time of getting the 650 52" LCD from Samsung because of the size, and because it was the best value a la Consumer Reports. While most of the research was done on-line, I also went to Best Buy and SAM's club etc. to see how all the sets they recommended compare.
It was at a Best Buy when I decided that the 650 52" was still the one I wanted, when I happen to pass by this set on my way out. The color had me floored. I noticed it was still a Samsung, but it was more vivid than anything I'd seen. I made note of the model number and checked it out on consumer reports. Like the 650, this 850 was the top LCD at this time, but for 42"-46" display category rather than the 50+.
While they do also make an 850 in 52", it was more than I was willing to spend on a TV. I would have liked the slightly bigger screen, but after setting this one up I'm glad I picked the better picture. After looking at all the sets in the various stores, this was really one of the only one's I've seen where you actually feel like you're in the screen. When looking at HD shots done outside in natural light - you actually feel you're looking out a window rather than staring at a television. It had us freaked out for the first day or two. There are actually times when you become unaware your watching a television, movies don't even look the same.
The shipping worked out very well; they were on time and very courteous, and in case you couldn't tell I would highly recommend this set. Especially to those who are deciding between a higher end model and a better value, if you don't mind sacrificing a few inches, or have the money to by the 52" 850, do it. You will more than likely not regret it.

Samung LN46A850
This is an awesome TV. There is no comparison accept for the higher-end model from Samsung (950 model). HD quality is unbelievable and regular TV (non-HD) channels are great quality as well. Anytime, I have guest over, they are left speechless.
