Great DTV Antenna

(5 out of 5) by D. Buchanan on Dec 6, 2008
Buy the Winegard SS-3000 Indoor DTV Antenna! After connecting my new Digital Converter box to my analog TV, I was upset that I could only get 8-DTV Channels. While they were clear, I was missing several of my FREE Over-The-Air channels. I live in an apartment in Phoenix Arizona and had to move the other antennas every time I wanted to get another channel. I read several reviews about the Winegard Sharp-Shooter 3000 Indoor Antenna so I bought one. As soon as I connected it to my DTV Converter box the signal improved. I had to re-scan the channel set-up to find all the new DTV channels but I now have over 30-DTV Channels and no more getting up to turn the antenna! Amazon.com is a great resource of information and a great place to put your mind at ease when making a purchase! If you've been on the fence about finding the right indoor antenna for Digital Television, get off! Buy the Winegard SS-3000 Indoor DTV Antenna now! You'll be glad you did...I am!

Works fine.. that's it just fine.

(3 out of 5) by JPC on Dec 26, 2008 (USA)
After my old RCA amplified rabbit eared antenna finally broke down after 6 years of use, I figured I would check out the antenna market to see what's new. I like quality products that will last; and after reading reviews from multiple websites, I thought the SS-3000 would be my best bet.

Since my old antenna broke before I got my converter box, I can't compare digital reception. As far as analog goes, my old antenna worked just as well; the picture quality and the channels received were the same. The channels that came in snowy before are still snowy, and the channels I had to adjust the antenna for before I still have to adjust the antenna for now, so I'm really not missing anything; I just didn't gain anything.

My digital experience has been rather dicey. The signal strength can go from the 70's to 0 in the blink of an eye. I don't know if it's a local problem or an antenna problem yet. In any case, when this continually happens, the program views like a badly scratched DVD.

Works well where others did not

(5 out of 5) by Sean McKenna on Dec 6, 2008
I had tried another well reviewed powered indoor antenna for my digital/HD television but the results were no better than the decades old RCA rabbit ears I had been using: a few stations OK, many others no luck at all. I decided to give the Winegard SS-3000 a try and I am delighted with the results. I have it situated on top of a dresser very near the wall in a second floor room so that it points roughly towards the antennas for most of the stations in our area which are 14-16 miles away and it gets good results for all the digital signals with no interference and no need to make adjustments of any kind. Excellent solution for my situation.

Best I've Found For Chinatown NYC

(5 out of 5) by Jeff in NYC on May 13, 2009 (New York, NY USA)
I live on the fifth floor of a ten floor building in Chinatown NYC. No direct line of sight to transmission towers, not by a long shot. My window faces a courtyard surrounded by ten floor buildings.

This is the best one I've tried yet, and I've tried six or eight. Close second was an Antennas Direct ClearStream. Third was Terk HDTVa. Most rabbit ears I've tried have been just "okay". GE Futura was a waste of money.

This thing does the job. Pulls in all the regular digital broadcast stations, plus a bunch I've never gotten before, like Channels 21 (WLIW) and 31 (WPXN, Ion TV). Low profile, too, so it doesn't block the whole window like the ClearStream.

Made HDTV viewing possible.

(5 out of 5) by Peter on Jan 23, 2009 (Los Angeles)
I seldom bother to post product opinion reviews, but this antenna really made our new HDTV a pleasure to watch, and more importantly - possible.

Having recently purchased a new HDTV to replace our old 10+ years analog tv, are excitement turned to disappointment when it came to watching over the air tv. As it turns out weak reception signals which cause even slight static, snow, lines, and other such distorttions on analog tv's, make digital tv's completely unwatchable. The digital tv image becomes frozen with pixels, sometimes intermittent but frequent, or totally frozen and at times no reception at all.

We live in an apartment in a three story building in Los Angeles where the transmission towers are about 25 miles away. Needless to say some channels became unwatchable, others only at times. Had to constantly get up to adjust magnified HDTV ready antenna in order to watch anything.

This unacceptable situation led me to do some research on the web, upon which I found this antenna highly rated. It's not inexpensive, but after reading so many mixed reviews about many others I thought I start my search from the top. Hopefully it would save much time and expense trying out multiple antennas.

Wow, Wow.

My true expression upon setting the Winegard ss3000 up. Signal strength instantly jumped to 100% on most channels most of the time. It was easy to find the optimum placement for reception next to the tv. Once in a very rare while, particularly on Friday nights (I have no idea why) some channel signals become weak causing problems, but all it takes is a quick antenna placement readjustment to make tv enjoyable again.

We are very satisfied customers. Works as stated, the way all things should, yet many do not.
