Horrible, horrible, horrible
I was very excited to order this antenna because of the positive reviews and the durable design of this powered antenna. Imagine my disappointment when I climbed onto my roof with a drill and all the mounting hardware to mount the antenna, only to find out that it is absolutley no better than unpowered rabbit ears. In fact, it's much worse. I checked all variables and the antenna is just a bad design. Arguably, it is a good antenna if your t.v. signals are all coming from different locations and directions. In my town, most of the signals are coming from a local hill / mountain peak so a directional antenna is far superior.
I am able to get the best reception with a Phillips indoor antenna and a "Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna." Do not waste your time with this Winegard antenna-- it doesn't work.
Some postive news: Amazon made the retun process very simple.

Dead out of the box
With the cable company raising prices and dropping channels from the lineup I decided it was time to drop them. I did my research on all of the over the air stations available, their directions and distances. It did not make sense for me to purchase a directional antenna. This unit (WINEGARD MS-2000 HDTV ANTENNA (WITH CABLE)) seemed to be the best choice. It had good reviews here and on other sites on the Internet. I had a family meeting and told the kids they were going to lose the Disney channel and they were ok after some initial complaining. I purchased this unit from Amazon. I was using a pair of rabbit ear's that came with my old TV. I was able to get about 14 stations. Some better than others depending on the weather. I hooked up the Winegard antenna according to the instructions and got nothing. I tried rescanning and got no stations. I removed the Winegard antenna and the original 14 stations came back. Winegard customer service was non-existent. Fortunately Amazon customer service is excellent and I was able to return the unit.

Poor product description on the details of this antenna
Product description needs to be updated. It claims 45 mile range but that is a little deceptive. 45 miles for WHICH frequency?? UHF or VHF or both? I wish the company would be more specific. You may be surprised to find that this is 45 mile VHF and 30 miles UHF. If you are only concerned about UHF channels then you need to be no further than 30 miles. Of course, there are multitude of other signal obstructions. But the product description should separately specify what is the range for UHF vs VHF. I don't like the way they lumped them together as 10-45 mile range. My UHF towers are 40 miles away and I could've saved a lot of time if the product description were more accurate. I ended up returning it believing this model's descriptions lack of details.

DTV reception less than adequate
Purchased this antennae to replace an old 50's VHF antennae located in my attic. Had good reception from VHF stations in and around Phila.for 40 years. Installed this in the attic, as was the old antennae, as I am located within 17 - 18miles from the broadcasting stations antennae, well within the range of this omnidirectional antennae even mounted in my attic, which they say reduces power by about half. Advertised as being efficient up to 30+ miles. This new antennae is driving a new Samsung HD up scale model 40" TV. Nothing wrong with the TV. When it is performing and getting a decent signal, it is great. However, most times it tells me weak signal or no signal. Funny, the old non-HD equipment performed well but the new "broadband" signal and equipment are less than adequate. It seems as if the goverment has entered into a conspiracy to have all citizens pay for cable by destroying your ability to do and see what you did in the past with simplified equipment and no monthly charges.
