This Is NOT My Stereo

(5 out of 5) by Kevin S. Stailey on Jan 26, 2008 (Atlanta, Ga.)
Ok, so you've heard that saying "This is not your Daddys this or your Daddys That". well I'm Daddy..LOL. The saying applies to this Head Unit from Kenwood. It has just replaced the Factory unit in my 2001 Chevy Silverado. I also purchased 6 MTX Thunder Speakers (2 Tweeters, 2 6.5" Woofers, 2 4x6 Rear Woofers)and a MTX Thunder Elite 404 4 Ch. Amp. No Sub yet. Don't really think I need one even though I am sure I will get one
10" Sub sooner or later. I say that because there is a good Bass quality from these small 6 1/2 inch speakers. After adjusting the frequency of the rear speakers so they don't receive anything lower than 180HZ (they rattled pretty bad as they couldn"t handle the bass at high volume.) Something Daddy's stereo couldn't do. You can adjust the frequencies hi and low received by any of the 4 channels so you can tailor your sound to your system right from the head unit. I haven't been in the after market arena for a while so this was feature was new to me and I think it's awsome to be able to manipulate what is coming to the speakers from the head unit to each speaker. This is well beyond EQ which effects the entire signal to all of the speakers. You can add Bass to the Front and take it out of the back, the same goes for mid and hi frequencies. I have not owned this for more tahn a few hours but this puppies the S&$#.
The tuner finds stations fine and sound a good bit better than my factory unit. I won't go into the amp reviewed seperately here at Amazon. The head unit has more functions than you can shake a stick at. iPod, USB 2.0 already ther even though I don't own an iPod yet, I do have a USB memory Stick and love the idea that I just plug them in and play the tunes. The whole reason I needed a new unit was that my factory unit quit working after playing too many PC based CD's, didn't know they couldn't do that.
It is also Blue Tooth ready and so much more but, to me the sound and quality of music is what you want to know about and this unit simply blows me away. I am a Hard Rock Drummer and grew up to The Beatles, Led Zep, Judas Priest, BOC and well, you know. I say "If it's too loud, you're too young". Crank this baby up, it can handle it and sounds very very good. I hate distortion, I am very picky and I am very pleased with this Head Unit. It doesn't cost that much so I was a little skeptical ($128.00)whether it would sound good. Alot of Serious Bang for the Buck here. Stand alone, it sounds really good, run it through an amp like mine and you won't be able to crank it up past 30 unless you wanna go deaf. Highly Recommend it.
