fun & interesting

(5 out of 5) by M. Muller on Dec 2, 2008 (USA)
Sure you can look up radio stations on the web yourself, but this has a wide selection preloaded. I like to find a local station broadcasting a big story and get the perspective of the people there living it, anywhere in the world, while it's happening. Also good for eliminating atmospheric static on AM stations at night when you want to listen to a ballgame somewhere out of range. World music is available anytime you want from most parts of the planet.

Super Easy to use, and FUN, makes a great gift too! HEAR the WORLD!

Aluratek is known for high quality radio devices, and this is a handy and very affordable member of the Aluratek family.

What I like MOST about this is that it is goof-proof- you simply plug it in to a USB port, the program loads and you are free to explore- there is nothing complicated here.

Like many reviewers, I remember enjoying short wave as a child - my family felt it was important to be exposed to other cultures and far away lands. This is certainly easier to use!

While one can argue that most stations can be found for free without the Aluratec- but would be rather time consuming- this is much easier.

I have used this on my Vista Premium Toshiba laptop, as well as my Acer 10.1 inch netbook running Windows XP - no problems with either- this truly is plug-and-play.

I think it makes a sensational gift too- be it a young person, or a senior or anywhwre in between.

People seem to be delighted by this product, as it has the "WOW it WORKS" factor going for it- you open it up plug it in and you are good to go.

It is also nice to hear news from around the world- I love the notion of hearing real time financial data and commentary from Europe, Japan and China.

You cant miss with this one - get one for yourself and maybe another as a "just because" gift for a friend or family member -this is good!

Easy way to find and play Internet Radio Stations

(5 out of 5) by Marc Mandel on Apr 11, 2009 (Long Island, New York)
Having read the favorable reviews in the local newspapers, I decided to get the Aluratek Jukebox. It is wonderful. I plugged it into my USB port and in under a minute I had thousands of choices of stations to pick from. I would recommend starting with the top ten choices in whatever category of music that you like. I wanted to listen to some country music and quickly found a few stations that I enjoyed. Just be aware that if you plan on using the Jukebox at work, some companies block streaming media and then the Jukebox will not be able to deliver its music.

No longer at the mercy of my browser

(5 out of 5) by K. Cohen on Dec 27, 2008 (Washington, DC)
At first, I didn't think it made sense to pay for something that I can get for free, since you can listen to most if not all of these stations via your browser. There are two things I see as reasons to pay for this. First, all the stations are nicely categorized and easily accessible via this device. Second, and most important, whenever my browser crashes or freezes up, the music keeps playing since I am not accessing the music via my web browser. That happened twice today.

I have Vista and this works fine. You have to deal with Vista's nanny-like security features, but that is not unique to this product.

great for WinXP, trouble on Vista, and doesn't work on Win7

(2 out of 5) by Daniel Conaway on Sep 24, 2009 (Glen Ellyn, IL United States)
Bought one for myself and gave several away as gifts ... works fine on WinXP machines, but failed miserably to operate on nephew's Vista laptop and never was able to get it working on my new Win7 PC. Maybe updates will be coming, but mine sits unused now.
