OK, nothing was ever this easy. I didn't order bluetooth from Dell for my laptop because of the cost and no real need at the time. Since getting my first smartphone, I really wanted to sync wirelessly rather than having to pull out a cable every time. I bought this because of the price and great reviews, although I doubted it would be that easy. When it arrived I was first struck by how incredibly tiny this thing is. I keep it plugged into one of my USB ports all the time and don't even know it's there. So anyway, I plug it in and Vista installed the drivers right away and that was that. I paired up my phone in no time, and now my phone sits across the room in it's charging station and syncs with my PC effortlessly (and the data transfer speed is excellent). I love this little thing!
Yet to get it to work with XP
I bought this dongle based on the glowing reviews and the immediate connectivity. When I opened up the package, it said I needed to download the software to connect audio listening devices if I have XP. The micro -innovations site isn't exactly user-friendly, but I did find the site with the drivers. Now of course, the link with the drivers will not load. It is quite an aggravating experience.
Great product!
Just received and installed it. Plug and play, as advertised. Linked to my Microsoft mouse without a hitch. I use a desktop, so the range is about 4 feet or so. No dropouts or need to reconnect. If I used a laptop, depending on the location of the USB ports I would be annoyed with the blue connection LED, which flashes incessantly. However, judiciously placed tape will fix this feature.
Best Bluetooth Plug and Play I have found
So I got a nice new computer with Vista 64 Home edition...of course I had all kinds of problems with drivers and some of my old programs not working...a real pain. I needed bluetooth to hook up my Blackberry to run it as a modem wirelessly, and so I got this dongle based on the reviews. I so much appreciate peopel who take the time to fill these things in because it really helps me to make up my mind. Anyways, I am guilty of using reviews but not contributing. I was so impressed with this product that I felt obliged to write. Here is the whole story: I open the package, plug it in, wait about 7 seconds...I now have bluetooth. And that is the whole story. No quirks, no mess, just easy, plug-and-play like it should be. Took me ALOT longer to actually get my Blackberry hooked up, but that's Blackberry's fault, not this amazing little device. Internet through Sprint is as fast as with a USB hookup. HIGHLY recommended.
Works out of the box - and well
I ordered this BT dongle after trying similar items from Targus and Kensington (Widcommm / Broadcomm). While those devices work OK with Vista, I could not get them to pair up my Toshiba tablet running XP SP3 and my Canon mobile iP100 printer - tried for 2 days. When this arrived (after 1 day!!! using Super Saver) I removed the proprietary Widcomm drivers and the Toshiba Stack Bluetooth driver from my tablet PC, then plugged this in - it installed itself absolutley no problem, and immediately recognized and linked with my printer. It sticks out a little further than the Targus / Kensington dongle, but still small enough to stay out of the way and leave in. Worked at about 10ft, didn't try further. I highly recommend this to anyone who doesn't have built in BT, especially given the $20 price.
