Get the model with hard disk

(1 out of 5) by Emad Aljumah on Feb 4, 2009 (Jamaica, NY United States)
This model comes with 40GB solid state drive. The drive is actually an 8GB drive with another, seperate, 32GB drive. The 32GB drive is very slow. I paid US$100 more for the SSD version to get better performance but instead I get lower performance!

Great unit. Please upgrade RAM to get most out of.

(5 out of 5) by Andrew Schott on Feb 15, 2009 (Milwaukee, WI)
The unit is great. I wiped the Xandros Linux hack that was on there and installed Fedora 10 & upgraded the RAM to the maximum of 2GB for $17. This is the ultimate in portability.

Outstanding Hardware !

(4 out of 5) by J. Lillig on Jan 11, 2009 (C'dale, IL)
Hello All,
I'm typing on it now and it's still just as excellent as it was a few months ago when new. Wifi, Bluetooth ,Webcam all work great.. SSD and Flash drive work great! Multi-Touch mousepad is just peachy! I'm very happy with it all. My only gripe is the version of Linux kind of sucks. I wish that they had outfitted it with Ubuntu like Dell but that's about the only issue I have. Some people complain about the shift key being in the wrong place. Not an issue for me but it would probably be a better idea if they would have maintained a standard layout.

But the most amazing thing that sets it apart from all of it's competitors is the phenomenal battery life. I took it on a train from Chicago to Carbondale Illinois and after turning off the wifi, bluetooth and lowering the brightness just a little bit it lasted the entire 5 1/2 hour ride and then at the end it still told me I had a 2 1/2 hours of battery life left to go. I was only reading PDF's and cached web pages which is not very power intensive but if that meter is true 8 hours of battery life is pretty amazing. Heck, I was pleased to get the 5 1/2.
My old HP barely offered 2 1/2 hours when it was brand new.

I put Ubuntu EEE on for a while and it worked very well but I eventually put MS Windows on it so I could watch Netflix movies from my instant queue. Netflix works perfectly fine on it. Not a complaint but I wish it had an Svideo out which would make it easier to put on my TV. Other than that all is excellent with it.

A web book that finally got things perfect!

(5 out of 5) by Mark Chad on Dec 22, 2008 (Eveleth, MN)
Where do I even start? This mini laptop has everything the ordinary person could ever want in a machine. Connection to wireless internet is flawless and the linux system it comes with is a breeze for anybody to use. The keyboard is perfect for most uses and the screen is perfectly sized. When you carry this laptop it's hard to even tell you have anything at all due to the weight being so light. I highly recommend this to anybody who is looking for a perfectly user friendly system without strings attached. Also this system got me introduced to the Linux program, which after using I'll never buy a Windows operated system again. Asus, you work magic!
