Clean and loud

(4 out of 5) by Firebird on Feb 6, 2009 (Oklahoma City ,OK)
This thing has plenty of power for most rooms if your speakers are up to the task. Don't hook up a tiny 5.1 speaker set and expect much. I bought the Fluance 5 speaker set and added a sub. These speakers are amazing for the price. I set the volume at 0db and it will run you out of the room. Normal listening volume is about -20db. Plenty of headroom. More inputs than a person would ever use except for HDMI.

The remote codes will not work on my new Samsung 52 750 flat screen. This is unforgivable. So looks like I will get Harmony eventually.

Setup takes some time and the manual is good but it takes a while to figure it out and I am a programmer.

The unit gets hot so if you have it in a cabinet you better get some fans.

The best receiver under 700$

(5 out of 5) by Kiran Boreddy on Jan 22, 2009 (Houston, TX)
I did months together research before buying this receiver to replace my current HK 245. The reason to replace HK 245 was simple it can't play DD HD or DTS HD and I was very much desperate to experience the new HD audio. My need was simple, I just wanted a receiver to use with PS3 and ATT uverse, so all I need was simple 2 HDMI inputs. After keeping this in my mind I sorted down my list with 3 receivers Onkyo 606, HK 254 and Denon 1909 (I didn't include Pioneer, somehow I don't like it. It's my personal opinion only). I wanted to go loyal with HK and decided to buy HK, however after reading poor reviews (not regarding sound clarity) in paring up with PS3 and I didn't want to enter into the HDMI handshake issues and dropped HK from list. The next one was Onkyo 606 and I spent so much time in circuit city in listening to 606 and I liked the available features like 4 HDMI ports and few others. However the sound clarity was not up to HK and due this 606 was dropped out from the list. And the left over was Denon and I read lot of good reviews about 1909 and decided to give a shot.

After receiving, hooked up with HKT15 speakers and performed the Audyssey auto setup and played Dark Knight. Simply the sound clarity was mind blowing. Played few DVDs and interstingly the sound clarity was much better than my previous HK245. The only negative part is poor manual. Whoever buys this receiver, they would have to spend more time to understand this receiver. But still I gave 5 rating the reason was simple after listening to the sound you would forget the pain took to setup. I haven't tried Audyssey dynamic volume, so I don't want comment.
Finally I started loving this and would highly recommend this receiver.

im enjoying this great reciever since the the day i got it !!!

after bad experience with harmen kardon avr-254 (i left a review on it's page),
i did tons of research, to make sure im not falling again. i'll make it short, and tell u that DENON is top of line company with a big line of recievers that had me confuesd for a while, but, i found out that, actualy, almost all of us don't need the pricy $1000 and up recievers- they are good but with a lot of functions and over power than what we ever use on daily basis.
the avr 1909 is new -2008, have everything that you need and more to enjoy bd (ps3) and music- the power is great - sound is just perfect, setup is fast, 4 hdmi- upconverts, hd decoders and a lot more.

that reciever, for me- it's the best, watching movies is so fun now that, the movie theather looks old comper to the quality u have now with bd + lcd + denon.

recommended !!!!

one more thing- great customer service from amazon and fast shipping. thats why every purchasing, i make sure it's by amazon.

Great Product - Not That Tough to Set Up

(5 out of 5) by Wanna-be Geek on Feb 2, 2009
I didn't buy this receiver because of its great sound and I didn't do a ton of research (kudos to you that did, you did my work for me). Simply put, we bought the receiver because of our new flat screen TV that will be installed over the fireplace. Because the electrician will run the cables thru the wall, up the side of the house and back inside, we wanted something that would minimize the number of cables on the outside of the house and something that wouldn't turn into a major project when switching out home theater components later. Turns out that, currently, this is one of the few receivers that will allow you to do this. I connected a 30' HDMI cable from the TV to the receiver, plugged all my components into the receiver and I'm set. I was able to connect everything without having to delve too deeply into the owners manual and everything, including surround-sound, was up and running within a half hour. I can attest to the difficulty of the manual, however, the cursing from setting up the Audyssey MultiEQ and my demand for ABSOLUTE SILENCE drove my husband and dog from the house. I found them in the car a half-hour later listening to xm radio. Now it is possible that the guy from Best Buy was shining me on when he said that this is one of the few receivers that would allow me to meet my stated goal of not completely enveloping the house in wires and cables and coax (oh my), but the sound is truly terrific and much superior to our previous home theater sound.

This is the list of equipment I used to make my system.
Acoustic Audio HD515 In Wall Ceiling 5.1 Home Theater Stereo Speakers.
Dayton SA70 70W Subwoofer Amplifier.
DLO Home Deluxe Ipod Dock. (Not that happy with it, it has some software hangups).
Logiteck 1100 remote control. (See my report on this remote)
Any HD TV with HDMI input.
Any DVD/CD player with a HDMI output.
Use any 12awg or 14awg wire to connect the speakers.
The setup despite the reviews I have read is a breeze.
Fantastic sound.
