Nice Grip!

(5 out of 5) by Operator207 on Sep 4, 2008 (DFW, Texas USA)
I have not used all its features, but this is one nice grip!

Pros: Added battery life. Timer! Remote. Portrait buttons!

It does not show the remote in the picture, but its the size of a "fun size" or "snack size" snickers bar, just a hair thinner. Its a single button, but operates like the shutter button. Half push focuses, full push take shot. Its very bland, void of any markings.

I have used the remote a few times, once to scare my wife. She hates to hold the camera, she is afraid she will drop it. I accidently hit the button on the remote and it focused and took a shot. She almost dropped it! She thought she had broken it. I will not do this again, as she will probably throw it next time.

Cons: None really. Maybe better instructions?

I am mounting this to a 400D. When I was trying to get it attached, it would act like it was stuck. Turns out, and I really do not know why, you MUST not have the batteries in it when you attach it to the camera. I have not researched further as to why, as it will never be coming off, and it took 5 minutes for me to get it on there. I did not want to risk it not going back on another time.

It does add weight to the camera. If you have a decent lens on it, it will probably balance out the camera better. It did for mine.

Once attached its very solid. I tried to (carefully) tweak it seeing if it would move around on the camera. It wouldn't!

Be careful when you screw it down, as with all grips, you CAN break the screw off in the mount. This would not be good. Get it secure, and tighten it, but don't torque it down too much.

Extended the features of an Canon 40D

(5 out of 5) by William Sepulveda on Aug 7, 2008 (Round Rock, TX)
I am very pleased with this vertical grip and the capability it allows the 40D to accomplish without being connected to a computer.

Being able to take pictures with the IR remote is great, I wish they would have put another sensor in the rear of the grip so the remote can be used from the rear of the camera.

Love the ability to setup the camera to take pictures on a timer to capture time laps information. Just great to be able to bring these features out of the camera in the use of the vertical grip.

This has been a great addition to my 40D.

Awesome XTi add-on.

I was extremely nervous if this device was going to work with my Canon Digital Rebel XTi or not. I search a number of different sites, and many of them referred to specific model numbers, but offered very different pictures (incorrect ones). I was extremely happy when I received this device and it worked as described with my Canon Digital Rebel XTi. The documentation was a little lacking on how to do everything, but the instructions did come in about 10 different languages, which didn't help much. But, there was enough information there to figure everything out. The flash is way better (quicker charge) now with 2 batteries, and I love all the different options I have now for taking time-delay-elapsed photos. Highly recommend this device.

Great battery grip for my XTI!

(5 out of 5) by A. Feliciano on Jan 22, 2009 (Japan)
After reading the reviews I decided to order this Battery grip for my XTI. The quality and feel of the hard plastic it is made off is very similar to the one used on the XTI so it looks like they belong together and that's how I will keep it. Once installed it is very solid and it took me about 30 sec to do so. It has more features than I would ever use but it is good to know they are there if I ever need them and the feature of setting the camera to take pics at different time intervals give me choices I didn't think were possible unless I connected my camera to the computer. Battery life is longer and the added weight to the camera gives the feel of having a more "professional" camera. I'm definitely glad I got it.
