I LOVE THIS 24 inch LCD MONITOR w/HDTV TUNER

(5 out of 5) by Stephen M. Keohane on Dec 6, 2008 (MA USA)
Downloading Netflix movies and watching them instantly on this 24" Samsung SyncMaster T240HD Computer Monitor/with HDTV TUNER has been a real joy!

I couldn't wait to try it out with the TERK amplified HDTV antenna. Today I hooked up the antenna inside my apartment to this computer monitor/HDTV. WOW! I'm blown away! I live about 10 miles north of Boston, inside a brick building and surounded by many homes and trees -- and I am getting (about 10 channels) simply dazzling high definition TV channels.

I dropped cable TV months ago because of all the commercials. That saved me $70 per month ($840 yr). Who needed cable TV? I'm a "movie freak", not a commercial freak. The commercials simply steal your time. It's criminal to have to pay (cable) and be forced fed commercials also. Sitting 3 feet away from a good 1080p full HTDV monitor like this Samsung monitor is like being in the 3rd row of a movie theatre. For $14 a month, NETFLIX lets me watch commercial free movies downloaded to my computer to watch nearly instantly. And they just upped their selection by teaming with STARZ. Now with this new 24 inch HDTV/computer monitor - I've made my computer my entire home entertainment system. Hello free HDTV. Good bye cable... This works great for a single computer geek like me. Tired of computing? No problem, download a movie, watch your own DVD movie, or switch the remote to the computer monitor to TV, and watch free HDTV coming over the air.

Thanks SAMSUNG & TERK ($38 indoor HDTV antenna)! You made this free HDTV possible.Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV ReceptionSamsung Touch Of Color T240HD 24-Inch LCD HDTV Monitor

Love This TV and Monitor

(5 out of 5) by Michael Simpson on Oct 25, 2008 (Leesburg VA)
OK first let me say I purcahsed this to connect to my Dish/Panisonic DMR. and to use as a monitor for a 2nd computer.

It works perfect. It did not come with the HDMI cable so I had to dish out another $40 to connect the DMR to the TV but the quality is greate.

As a monitor I run 1920x1200 and its as crisp as my other 24" Samsung monitors I use on my main computer system.

I have used the VGA on the TV to connect a lap top and it looked good as well.

Cons:
- The Front Power switch just does not work. I have other Samsung monitors with this kind of power switch and they work very well. On this TV it does not. You have to use the remote control to turn the TV on and OFF. This to me is a manufacturing defect.

- Speakers are loud enough for a quiet room but sound tinny. There is no external speaker output asided from the side earplug but this can be used to connect a set of external speakers.

- The only way to get the advertised Doulby digital is to use the fiberoptic output connector. This means you have to have a very expensive speaker/amp system.

- No Picture in a picture

- No Svid or NTSC inputs.

- The standard stereo input is share by both the PC and DCI vid input.

- No rear mount screws for alternative mounting options

Pros
- Each input has its own video adjustments.

- Great picture on both TV and monitor modes

- Many zoom/picture modes at the touch of a button on the remote

- One of the brightest monitors I have ever used.

- Stand tilts and swivles

- 2 HDMI inputs as well as Componet, DVI and VGA inputs

- Very good veiwing angles and good contrast ratio

- Sleep Timer

I have not had the chance to use the Tuner in the TV as I am in the basement and use it with my Dish/DMR.

This TV was made for me.

(5 out of 5) by Z. Greenman on Aug 29, 2008 (Talbott, TN USA)
Short and simple I bought this monitor because I like it's features and it's looks. Hands down this TV looks way better then most TVs out there which if you're buying an HDTV monitor you need to like the way it looks and features take a back seat to that. In today's HDTV market the only TVs with better features are the ones just shown at a demo somewhere. Its not a matter for me in having the best but having what I want, and something I enjoy looking at even if its not turned on. If you want a pro monitor why the heck are you only spending $500. I own a PS3, Xbox 360, a PC, and I watch TV, so this TV has all the right inputs a turner a qam turner it really is a dream for me and I don't think I could have done better at the moment. If you are planning on buying this monitor know why you want I did and I'm a happy man, oh and it's a 1080p TV don't let somebody that doesn't know what they are talking about tell you it's not; I have owned this TV for a month now and it works as advertised which is all I wanted.

Amazing TV -- and a PC monitor

(5 out of 5) by M. Cromer on Mar 27, 2009 (Memphis, TN)
I've had the Samsung T240HD for about 5 hours and I am amazed at this purchase.

I bought it as a computer monitor, and figured the HDTV tuner would be a fun extra. But now I'm thinking of buying another one as a TV in the bedroom.

The biggest surprise: It tunes not only the HD channels (unscrambled QAM) from my cable provider, but also the regular analog channels that I would get without a cable box. Perhaps it has an NTSC tuner as well. All channels are selectable without a mode change (analog<-->digital).

Another pleasant surprise: It didn't take more than 20 or 30 minutes to scan the channels, and once they are memorized, it is fairly quick to select and change channels. I've had other HDTVs that seem to take a long time going from channel to channel.

One button push to switch between PC screen and TV screen (always on).

The color and contrast are glorious.

People have complained about the speakers, but they aren't that bad -- what you'd expect in a small enclosure -- and you can always plug a good set of PC speakers into the headphone jack or run an optical connection to your home stereo.

As a computer monitor it works fine and I have more screen area than I know what to do with. VGA works (with an optional DVI-DVA adapter), but I recommend a digital connection to your graphics card.

1080p. Component, 2xHDMI, DVI, and TV cable/antenna inputs. Runs cool. 'Nuff said.

Another super value from Samsung

(5 out of 5) by Jim W. Barnes on Mar 17, 2009
Like JJ before me, my main concern lies in picture performance, both as a Mac monitor, and as an HDTV. At home I have a Samsung 61" DLP for tv viewing and an I-Mac 20" for home computing. My new T240 has been in my office (remote) for several months and I have to say that it has passed all tests of my concerns. In computing mode, it's connected via DVI to a Mac Mini and I can not tell the difference between the Apple 20" I-Mac display and this Samsung.- gorgeous on both. As to the HDTV functionality, it seeked out and found all channels, I set them up in favorites for quick access, and removed all channels of no interest easily. The picture looks beautiful as the source coming to it. That is to say, all HDTV signals are not identicle.

I've not experienced any of the issues several reviewers have noted regarding picture problems so I can not comment on them. For me this was a super value measuring performance to cost. The Apple 24" display sold separately (no I-Mac, no HDTV) is currently listed @ $899. How many 24" 1080P HDTV's can you find out there matching Samsung's quality for around $300?
