Onkyo 706 - Powerful Sound and ease of use
What a great receiver. I just upgraded from the Onkyo 500 series. The 706 is terrific - easy programming of speakers using the provided microphone which does all the work automatically. No searching for the proper setting for movies, music, etc. - the 706 does it all on it's own. Ease of set-up, ease of use, and a powerful sound. What else can you want !!

Onkyo 606 vs 706?? No comparison!
To start, I am not an audiophile, but I know when something sounds better.
For weeks now I have been pondering between several different receivers. The Yamaha V663, Harmon 354, Denon 789, Onkyo 606, and the Onkyo 706. After purchasing the 606 and testing it out at home, it didn't feel like the receiver had enough power to sound like a "real theater". Since I bought the 606 locally I was able to return it easily. I then ordered the 706 on Amazon and couldn't be happier. The power!! I understand its supposedly only 10 more watts/channel, but I could tell a big difference...maybe it was the THX feature that made it seem louder and clearer, but WOW!! I also love the "Loudness"Night-time feature which even at low volumes give you all the sounds of a theater experience. Audyssey set-up mic worked perfect and yes the receiver was warm, but not overly hot like others have said, but then again mine isn't enclosed. Receiver was VERY EASY to set up. Remote could be better, backlit, but overall couldn't be happier. I didn't go with the Yamaha or the Harmon because of the lack of raw power, less HMDI inputs, and no THX certification. I can't comment on the upconversion, because I have a PS3 that does that. I don't know how many times I visited Brandsmart and Fry's to listen to all of these receivers but the staff knew me by my first name :) My system: I have Infinity Primus towers and an infinity beta center, Velodyne 10" subwoofer, Infinity SAT-450 satellites and PS3! System Rocks!! This receiver is highly recommended!!!

I likey
No complaints. Actually two minor ones. They could have gave it a backlighted remote. Otherwise sound is awesome. Heat is normal for this size amplifier. Setup was nice and simple. I have HDMI set to through cause i noticed some noise issues with the up-conversion. I wasn't interested in up-converting my 1080i signal to 1080p. As for movies, ps3 does all the work. LOVE IT

REMOTE ALONE IS A JOY TO HAVE
This unit is so nice and so feature packed all I can say is buy it! I purchased a Sony STR-DG820 a week or so prior to this Onkyo TX-SR706 arrived. I thought that unit was pretty nice with auto speaker set up etc. This unit does all that does plus alot more. My Sony is run with new Samsung 52-650, my vizo ended up with Onkyo in basement family room. The remote that came with Onkyo had code for Vizo while my Sony didn't so if anyone has a wife that gets frustrated by too many remotes that alone was a god send. This unit just does so many things good and even remote = that extra step value... 5 stars...can i go higher?

Great Receiver!!!
I use this receiver with infinity primus speakers. I only use the HDMI input and output's, and I'm not aware of any problems with the other outputs as described in other reviews. Also I had no problem with the mic that came with it to auto set up for my room. I always end up changing the setting to my own specs anyway, so that I didn't care for anyway.
I haven't had any problems, except one of my speakers was shorting out because the wire, which had a gold connector, wasn't plugged in the back of the speaker very well and it caused it to short thus making the receiver automatically turn it self off. I called Onkyo about the problem and the first person that I spoke to figured that it was a speaker problem and to check all of the connection. That is how I figured that was the problem, and it was fixed within minutes. The service was great, and the product is great to shut itself down if there is a short so you don't ruin the receiver.
I would buy onkyo again, and I think they are very comperable to Denon, but a little cheaper for the same specs.
