Makes reading via the Kindle a much more pleasurable experience

(5 out of 5) by Jonathan Appleseed on Sep 8, 2008
This is such an immense improvement over the standard case that Amazon shipped with the Kindle that there's almost no comparison. I would give the standard case 1-star because it can't hold the Kindle securely in place. Holding the Kindle in place is an important function for a supportive case. The standard case doesn't perform this function, and is cheaply made. For what we spent on the Kindle, I expected something that would at least hold it securely.

The M-edge case is many steps above, and it's so much nicer that I didn't mind shelling out the money. (As cheap as I can be, that's saying something.)

The M-edge case holds the Kindle so firmly that if I were to use the case as a soccer ball, I don't think the Kindle would move. Realistically speaking, the Kindle doesn't unexpectedly fall out of the case when I'm reading it anymore, which drove me crazy and, I found, caused me to use it less. Instead, there are four very snug corners that the Kindle fits into and they hold it as securely as a straitjacket holds the Joker. This snug fit has significantly increased my enjoyment of the Kindle, as my biggest beef with that device is that about 2/3 of its perimeter is covered by large buttons that move you forward or backward a page (or more). When I read a book, I hold the book firmly. I don't hold it daintily, as if its porcelain. You can't hold the Kindle firmly. But you can hold this case firmly.

As to this case pressing buttons and causing one to lose his place...the reviewer who complained about that had a resolution for his own problem: put the Kindle in sleep mode. Or, how about turning it off?

Beautiful case, one minor drawback

(4 out of 5) by Darleen Michael Baker on Oct 21, 2008 (Wyoming)
I ordered this shortly after I got my Kindle because I felt the case that came with it was just a little too insecure.

I love the look and feel of the M-edge. It's a gorgeous piece of work. The interior is softly sueded and has compartments for cards and a loop for a pen. The biggest plus is there's an extra elastic loop for the upper right hand corner of the kindle which I feel is much more secure than the little plastic tab on the original Kindle case. It also has a leather tab closure as opposed to the elastic band on the original case. Elastic loses it's "snap' over time and there's no easy way I could see of replacing it when that happened.

Overall this is a great product. My only quibble with it is the spine is very stiff and I have already found I prefer to fold the cover back behind the Kindle while I read. Also, there isn't that thick pad to protect the screen that's on the original cover. But these are minor considerations given how much more secure I feel this case is than the original.

Not as good as I expected

(2 out of 5) by Book Reader in OH on Sep 7, 2008 (OH)
The case is definitely more stylish than the cover that comes with the Kindle, but because it's lacking the extra padding on the front cover (that rests on the screen) and because the 'binding' does not have the same strength as the original case, I've returned it. I purchased my Kindle to take with me to China for a month, and even though this will be in my carry on I still want the added strength offered by the original. Too bad, because it sure looks nice.

Even better than the original M-Edge cover, and light is great

(5 out of 5) by MaryBeth Dawson on Dec 20, 2008 (Maplewood, MN USA)
I had ordered, and liked, the original M-Edge replacement cover. It held the Kindle so much more securely than the stock cover, and it was much nicer looking. When I saw they had a redesigned version, that would hold a light, I decided to upgrade. I keep my Kindle in my purse, and with darkness falling earlier, I am missing some reading opportunities without a light, and it is a pain to hold a flashlight. I ordered the new case, and I was stunned at the improvement. It has a much sturdier feel, and is very attractive. I still like the older one, but a friend has that one now, and this one is beautiful. It is slightly bigger, but still fits in my purse fine, and the Kindle is very well protected. Today I received the light, they must have just started shipping the early orders, and it is great! It fits in very snugly, does not interfere with handling during reading, and provides very good light. Fits in my purse exactly the same as before. I love this!!!

Great way to make your Kindle feel like a book

(5 out of 5) by Anna Z on Feb 16, 2009 (Indianapolis)
I've had my mocha cover for over 2 months and it's excellent. It's soft and comfortable to hold, and gives the Kindle 1 a more traditional and classy appearance.

The Kindle is secured in the cover by four leather corners and stays very firmly in place. The top right corner also has elastic to give you access to the power and wireless buttons on the back of the Kindle. I've found this strap a bit too constraining when I need to get to the back buttons so I don't use it, but three corners are still enough to keep my Kindle strapped in. To give the Kindle screen a little extra padding, I cut the black foam padding that comes in the cover's package and inserted in the cover's inside pocket.

I bend the cover back when I read, carry my Kindle in my purse or work bag daily, and travel frequently and the cover has held up very well. It has not showed signs of wear yet, and even when it does, brown leather still looks nice after a little weathering. Having a nice leather cover that keeps my Kindle in place and well-covered is well worth the price.
