The EEE 900 I recieved has been wonderful to use, but the tech support from ASUS is something to be desired. My unit's webcam only works in certain programs, and I've contacted their support multiple times and have gotten no help. Besides that, it's a great, tiny little machine. If only the webcam would work right!
Excellent For Travel
Excellent little netbook. Decent battery life (~3 hours at moderate use), and good enough resolution for the screen size. There are two physically separate drives: a 4Gb and an 8Gb. The smaller drive reads and writes noticeable faster, so if you plan to tinker, make sure to use that for OS and the larger drive for storage. I wiped XP Home as a precaution against everything I hate about computers, and put EEEBuntu on. Very easy to do, and now it runs without a problem. The video card is powerful enough to run full resolution presentations off of it without bogging the machine down. My only note is the keyboard size. Try one out before you buy it. I have smaller hands and after a day of typing I can touch type proficiently, but my Father has large bear paws and cannot use the keyboard at all.
Great little tool
I bought this netbook for my 7 year old son, and he absolutely loves it. It isn't as fast as your standard laptop would be, but it gets the job done, and can be carried anywhere. I'd have rather had the Linux version, but for the price, there was no choice, and the OS is easily replaced... I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for a computer that can truly be taken anywhere...
great small pc
This is a great little machine that's small and light. I think it will be great to travel with. I wish I bought one with a little larger HD.
Awesome!
Im very happy with this laptop, was lucky enough to get it on the customers vote for 140 after taxes. It has been running smooth, I primarily use it just for surfing and watch movies on the go. It takes a bit of time to configure it all to run quickly, a lot of forum reading and tweaks.
Pros: light weight, very quite until the fans come on, shock resistant, decent battery, plethora of accessories and mods for it, easily mods, integrated 1.3 mp camera and mic
Cons: can heat up, especially if over clocking, stock battery life is about 2hrs which is pretty low considering ssd and small screen(my dell 17incher with the wuxga 1900x1200 screen runs for 2 hours 6800go wifi on and medium brightness), cheap feeling power adapter, no screen latch.
other things to keep in mind: a upgrade battery that runs for 6+ hrs can be had for $50 shipped, if you are comfortable with sodering a touch screen panel can be installed for about $50 as well over the existing lcd, as well as many other mods. the drive is partitioned as a 4/8, install just the os on the 4gb, the rest on the 8. A large capacity SDHC card should be kept in the reader slot at most of the time to boost capacity, class 6 and up (I suggest 20mb read/write from sandisk extreme 3 can be had for practically free after ongoing rebate). Upgrade the ram to 2gb, easy and quick, does not void asus warranty with the 2gb kingston single module. check eeepc forums for more tweaks as there are many possibilities!
Bottom line: Heck yea for the price! eeepc and amazon ftw!
