Excellent TV

(5 out of 5) by the human calculator on Jul 24, 2008 (Monterey Park, CA)
It's an excellent TV overall... the only negative I see is that if your TV has more than one volume control, you better not turn all the way up on the TV's volume and almost nothing with the other... you will hear some hissing sound from the TV.

good picture & good remote

(5 out of 5) by S. R. Schnur on Feb 21, 2009 (ME USA)
I bought this TV based on the Amazon.com recommenders. It was easy to set up if you ignore the fact we are elderly, and it was hard to lift to the cabinet it stands on. It found the channels perfectly. It has a clear instruction manual. Best of all, the remote is clearly set out and has buttons of different sizes according to function. The labels on the remote are readable. The picture is far better than the picture on the Vizio we bought a couple of months ago. We don't yet know how durable it is because it is new.

I did not look into the "white glove" delivery some reviewers mentioned because we live on an island, and sometimes it takes months even to get a repair person. (Don't even get me started on Sears.) We decided to order from Amazon.com because the nearest store was a 120 mile round trip from the mainland ferry landing which would add at least $30 to the cost of the computer and take a whole day whereas this computer was said to have free shipping. We estimated that the TV would arrive on a Wednesday. On that Wednesday we received a phone call from an air freight service in the southern part of the state. They had our TV and did not deliver to islands. What should they do with it? We managed to work out a compromise where the TV would be delivered to my husband waiting at the ferry terminal on the mainland side "after lunch" two days hence. I shoveled out the back of the pick up truck twice because of a snow storm. My husband went over on the last morning boat (9:30 AM) and waited for lunch time. The first afternoon boat was at 1:00. At one point in his cell phone communication with the delivery man, my husband was told the delivery might not get there in time for the 2:00 boat. My husband let him know in no uncertain terms that he had left the house at 8 AM and the next boat after the 2:00 would be at 4:00. He might have mentioned what the delivery person could do with the TV. The delivery man, whose fault the whole fiasco WAS NOT, kindly changed the order of the deliveries and even managed to get my husband on the 1:00 boat. My elderly husband had to help the delivery person put the 76 pound TV on our pickup, but we both had to unload at this end. It ended up costing us $13.00 and a lot of aggravation and fatigue for this "free" delivery.

This whole tale is to let you know that this item is not sent by FedEx or UPS which deliver to our door. Whether or not this delivery goes smoothly depends very much on where you live. A little research might have let me discover what sized objects are too big for ordinary delivery. Be warned.

Terrible Customer Service. Do not order.

(1 out of 5) by Platte Valley Bank on Sep 8, 2008
Less than 3 months after purchasing this TV it broke. It wants to power cycle every 15-20 seconds. Sony customer service can not provide an authorized repair center in my market area that is open past 5PM CST Mon-Fri. Sony wants me to take a vacation day to fix their defective product. I did not purchase their TV Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM CST, why should I have to have it fixed during those hours? Customer service has no more options for me except to write a letter to the review committee. I had to write a letter and I'm still waiting on a reply. Sony does not empower it's customer service employees the power to satisfy a customer who has a broken TV. I have never received this poor level of customer service on a product that was $1800. Unless you have an unlimited amount of vacation to have them repair your TV when it breaks stay away from this product!
