asus eee rules

I love this little thing. I use it to write papers and create powerpoint for nursing school. Warning though: the microsoft word and powerpoint programs are really inadequate. I downloaded openoffice, which is a free program (and had to remove microsoft office programs to create enough room in the 4gig hard drive), otherwise it wouldn't be useful to me. I understand you can get it with linux and openoffice already installed, and if I could do it again I would go that route. Also be aware that the SURF model, not this one, has the built-in camera and mic. Another issue I had was a malfunctioning spacebar (a common problem, I've read). I called customer support, sent in the keyboard (easy to remove), and they sent me a working one very promptly. Everywhere I go, people want to know what it is, and they want to have one. I use it almost exclusively now, even though I own two other computers. Boots up quickly, and I love the size.

EEEPC-4G is OK

(3 out of 5) by J. TOWNSEND on Nov 7, 2009
As a lightweight netbook, I thought the 4G would be great for travel. It is rugged and has good connectivity and adequate processing power for email and web browsing. However, I found the apps were space hogs, and the solid state drive was not large enough to host other things I need to do on the road (like music, videos, and pictures). By the time I brought all the paraphenalia I needed to do everything I wanted to (external drives, etc.) I found I was carrying more weight than I was with my old laptop that had space and processing power to do it all. Oh well.

^^^NOTICE:Silly little laptop.Slow^^^

UMPC had good wireless connection

(5 out of 5) by Rima Neapolis on Dec 20, 2008 (San Francisco, CA USA)
After much research on ultra-mobile personal computers, I decided to go for this model and bought a slightly used one. I was not disappointed. For one thing, I wanted the Windows XP operating system. I took it with me on a trip -- easy to carry -- and found that the wirless connection was really good.
