this is an overall quality receiver from JVC. I have been hooked on JVC head units for a while now. I have added sirius and hd radio on this receiver. It sounds really really good. There are pluses and minuses but overall I would recommend it.
pluses:
- direct ipod link, you just plug it in, you can browse playlists, albums, etc
- built in bluetooth, works out of the box
- really good sound
- it takes upgrades (sirus, hd radio)
minuses:
- plastic in the faceplate too shiny, it sometimes makes it hard to read the display while in full daylight
- internal vs external microphone (this is debatable that is a minus as it sounded the same as with an external microphone - at least in my case)
- rotary sound volume is to sensible and it can be pushed by mistake changing the source)
- you can add multiple phones but bluetooth connects to the last phone vs the preferred phone, if somebody else drove your car you need to manually connect to the head unit afterward.

Unsatisfactory
Perhaps the unit is defective but it can only support my iPhone for audio if the signal comes from the audio-out and back in via the aux--in jack on the front. Quite apart from the aesthetics of having a cable draped from the iPhone to the unit, you lose all capability to control it from the unit. Also, pairing is relatively easy but the audio quality is abysmal. At anything much more than a crawl, there was so much noise as to make it impossible for the listener to tell what I was saying.
The seller said there is only a cosmetic different between this and the JVC KD-R900 but I find that very difficult to believe and should have researched further before buying. My mistake, don't make the same one.
