Great for large and medium size rooms

(5 out of 5) by R. Kovacs on Sep 14, 2009 (Cleveland, OH USA)
The Tech Craft BAY4828B - 48" Wide A/V Entertainment Center (black) was a perfect choice to support a black 42" LCD TV in the corner of our 24' x 16' family room. Its rich appearance and quality of construction make it a good deal for the price. Also, it's a rarity to have the option of both open and closed shelves in a TV stand. We keep a cable TV DVR and a DVD player on the convenient open shelf and Wii accessories and DVDs on the two shelves protected by the glass doors. (Our Wii sits hidden behind the TV on one side of the stand, which makes it convenient to charge and grab the controllers.)

Note that this stand affords a somewhat higher position than most for your TV, which is especially great for the Wii (It may also be advantageous for folks with toddlers and dogs, in lessening their access to the TV screen.). Its solid stance and ample depth reassures that flatscreen TVs will rest stably.

Assembly was straightforward for one person with a few simple tools. Some of the pieces are heavy, which is a testament to its quality. There was one minor flaw -- a top rear corner was bent slightly upward. Overall, we cannot be happier with our purchase.

Solid feel and looks great!

(5 out of 5) by Juniorverse1 on Mar 31, 2009
I was very concerned about ordering furniture online (particularly one with glass). But this piece looked like it was exactly what I wanted... perfect size, height, and with glass cabinet doors.

The first package came damaged... but that was totally the fault of my UPS driver. (When I went out there to help him unload the package, I saw that another box had fallen on top of it and created a big gash in the carton which damaged almost every individual piece inside the box.) I called Amazon and they immediately had UPS come and pick up the package at their expense, and also immediately scheduled delivery of a new one. AMAZON ROCKS! When the UPS driver came to pick up the damaged one, I asked him politely to do whatever he could to make sure the same thing didn't happen to the replacement one that should be arriving in a few days.

Second time was a charm... absolutely no damage. I'm so glad that I gave it a second shot. It looks great, and it feels really solid. It took a little over 2 hours to put together, mostly due to the number of bolts and pins used to hold it all together (plus, the doors were a little bit of a pain to get on). But after it was all built, I was pleased that the doors closed tightly and were properly aligned. Also note that there were NO misaligned holes or anything like that, a manufacturing defect that seemed to have been an issue with a similar Techcraft product in the past.

I couldn't be happier with this entertainment center, especially for the price. I uploaded the dimension specs sheet to the "customer images" area for this product, and I'll be uploading photos of the assembled product shortly as well.

Nice piece of furniture... eventually

(5 out of 5) by Anonymous on Nov 28, 2009
Based on other reviews here, I ordered this item fully expecting it to arrive damaged. I was not disappointed. The box UPS delivered looked like it was dragged behind the truck on a rainy day. Only one part was actually damaged, but it was a front corner of the top shelf and very obvious. So I went to Techcraft's web site and put in a request for a new top. Six days later the replacement part arrived, free of charge and in perfect condition - and delivered by FedEx instead of UPS.

Assembly was easy compared to other knocked-down furniture I've had in the past. The only sort of tricky part was aligning the doors, but a little patience and following the directions resulted in perfectly aligned and perfectly closing doors. I assembled it without a helper, there was no need for an extra set of hands. One nice thing was all the parts are held together with hidden screws, not those cam-lock things that tend to break.

The black finish is decent quality, and all the parts except the back are some kind of hardwood. The back panel is particle board but it's nicely finished and thick. Overall the quaility is better than I expected and it doesn't look like build-it-yourself furniture, in fact it looks better than most units that cost 2 or 3 times as much. It's also very sturdy.

Highly Reccomend

After much searching for an entertainment center I chose this one. I have no regrets. I wanted an enclosed cabinet with glass doors. I needed the glass doors so that the remotes would operate all my accessories. Assembly took a bit longer than expected. (two people would have made the job easier.
I would strongly reccomend this piece of furniture to anyone.

Perfect for the Bedroom or Home Office!!

(5 out of 5) by CPNY on Jun 18, 2009 (New York, NY USA)
I have been searching for a new stand for my tv in my bedroom to replace the clutter collecting computer desk I had. Previously I was using the top shelf of the desk for the TV. The rest of the desk was used for mail, junk mail, papers, the printer for my laptop and ofcourse my clothes hanger (desk chair). I have been looking for one of those compact offices to hold everything and put the tv on top of. Everything was way to big or to tall. I did not want an armoir. After reading the previous review I decided to purchase this unit.

The size of this unit is perfect for the bedroom! I have the TV on top with a few picture frames and a lamp which is far enough away to not give any light saturation to the screen. The slot under the top of the unit is perfect for the cable box and Bose wave radio. I have enough room for my xbox360 with games, cd's, printer, cable modem and wireless router nicely placed in the cabinets. I have only used three of the four compartments within the cabinet holding all of the above! If you are looking for something to hold your office peripherals as well as your entertainment needs then this is the unit for you. It is high enough for optimal tv viewing while in bed. I only have a 26" LCD right now but will be upgrading to a 46" in the bedroom so Im sure it will only get better!!

Putting this together was a breeze.. I only needed a screwdriver. It said you need a hammer to but I did not need one. The instructions are all diagrams. Overall assembly took about 45 min from unpacking to assembly to tossing of the box. The overall unit extremely well built and sturdy. I never usually buy anything like this online but am very glad I did. There is no comparison to any unit I saw in any store over the past few months while shopping for this type of unit. Every other unit I saw in person cannot compare. I did see one unit I liked in a store "straight from the crate" (not affiliated with crate and barrel) that was very similar however it was 3 times the price!

You will not be dissapointed. If you want more info google the website for full specs and other units they have. The best part about this unit is the space between the top counter and cabinets. Perfect for Cable box and another unit, which is where I have put the radio as mentioned before.

Hope this review helps!!
