Sony LBTZT4 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System (Silver)

(5 out of 5) by Liam T. Ripley on Aug 15, 2009
I recently purchased this stereo system from amazon.com a few weeks ago. It lives up to everything i expected it to be. I have nothing negative to say about it. It sounds great no matter what setting you have it on. The only thing i would comment about it is that the sub woofer isn't as powerful or loud as i expected it to be. 90% of all the sound comes from the two speakers/tweeters. It still delivers great bass, mind you; It is just a thought.

Just a warning about a seller...

(5 out of 5) by eljaydubs on Aug 5, 2009 (Central New Jersey)
I am thinking about buying this item. The seller on the main page was just changed (because their price is now the lowest) to "DependableResource". On their feedback page (always check this!), someone wrote in with a comment saying that Amazon notified them (the customer) that this seller (DependableResource) was selling refurbished items as new (which may or may not be true).
You can still buy this item from other sellers in the box on the right hand side, to the right of the item picture/description and under the "Add To Shopping Cart" button. I obviously don't know how true this is, but I would check this out further before buying from that particular seller. Just wanted to give a heads up!
*UPDATE*
DependableResource has since deleted the negative review (wonder how many other negative reviews get deleted??). I think that is absolutely unacceptable. I did email them asking to explain this and they said the person got them mixed up with another seller (though I did find similar reviews from other people on their feedback page complaining of the same or similar problems). (Their customer service was VERY speedy and courteous in response to my email, I must say...which is nice, but this means little in the big picture.) This is very frustrating because I cannot seem to find this product anywhere else, and practically all the sellers listed are accused of selling used merchandise as new, or bait and switch tactics on their feedback page(s)!
What is Amazon coming to? I am very hesitant to order a somewhat pricey item, the bad reviews on the feedback pages are too scary!

Decent shelf system

Very good base, decent sound at high levels. Not the greatest for watching movies but a good buy for general use.

Little Big System

(5 out of 5) by Jed-Deb on Apr 25, 2009 (Longmont, CO United States)
Did a little research on the net before deciding on this system and so far quite pleased with the techie audio options and sound quality. Was looking for a shelf system with decent sound and the LBT-ZT4 fit my price and functionality requirements well. You can hook up almost anything to this system (MP3, etc) if you have a vast arsenal of media players, and it has enough bells and whistles to keep you entertained for hours if you're into tweeking and customizing. It is a bit larger than your normal-sized shelf system, and needs open space to keep it from overheating (has a fan inside), so you might want to double check your shelf space beforehand to make sure you have enough room. It comes set up with the wacky light and "speedometer" display, but you can turn these features off if you like less of a light show. Also, sound-wise some of the presets can be a little heavy on the "watch my furniture vibrate across the room" excess bass feel, but this can be toned down as well. It also has an iPod dock if you have an iPod, but if you don't, it still has enough options to hook up your other MP3 players. (I have a Sony MP3 player and assumed the dock would also accomodate my Sony MP3 since it IS a Sony shelf system, but the dock only accepts an iPod. Weird.) The remote could have had more thought invested into it- If I want to hear track 4 on a CD, I have to hit "skip, skip skip" instead of just selecting track 4. A bit annoying and a little surprised Sony didn't spend more time on designing their remote. Overall though, I'm pleased with my purchase and expect to enjoy the functionality options for years to come.

Gregg's Sony review

(5 out of 5) by Gregg W. Whitmer on Mar 27, 2009 (Chippewa Lake, OH USA)
This system is called a "mini" system but it's far from that. It's larger than I thought it would be and powerful enough to pump out some good sound. It has everything I wanted such as a three CD player and an iPod dock that recharges as well as plays. The radio has more AM and FM presets than you will need. The remote is easy to use.
