Kindle Jacket

Cover does not fit the Kindle 2. Too short. Not sure why it is recommended. Had to return.

Works for me

Purchased one in red for my lady and one in black for my self. Fit well and like the pockets in the front cover. Store a pad, pen there along with a James Clip to reset if necessary.

Good quality---

OK, but not great

(3 out of 5) by Mark W. Solomon on Mar 21, 2009 (Georgia)
This jacket has advantages over the orignal cover supplied with the Kindle, but has drawbacks also. It is better in that it holds the Kindle more securely with retainers at all four corners. Unfortunately, even though the one at the top left is supposedly elastasized, it is still very difficult to get to the switches on the back of the Kindle. So, unless Amazon moves the switches to the front, there needs to be a better solution. I would recommend an access hole in the back, like some other covers offer. Secondly, this cover folds oddly. To me, the best way to hold the Kindle requires the cover to be folded back on itself behind the Kindle. When this cover folds, it is not even and is awkward to hold. Plus, the tab, which keeps the cover closed when stored, doesn't fold back out of the way well. All in all, I got what I wanted which was a more secure carrier, but this could be better designed.

Kindle 1 leather jacket

(2 out of 5) by Muziblitz on Mar 16, 2009 (New England)
Not very happy with this product. It was stiff, heavy, and the retainers on the jacket fit loosely and were a little difficult to slide over the corners of the Kindle. I liked the jacket that came with the Kindle 1 I have and was hoping this would be as flexible and nicely fitted as the original but that the retaining corners would do a better job of holding the Kindle within it. I won't return this item as it would make a good carrying case to fit into a case or traveling bag with the retaining strap not allowing the Kindle to come loose in that situation. But for everyday use I've gone back to the original cover. I use the elastic band on the bottom of that to strap the Kindle in place but you have to move it aside to use the menu button. I'm really not a chronic complainer but this just didn't do the job and was bulky and stiff; not a good companion for the product it's designed to hold.

Lovely cover - but with a few caveats.

(4 out of 5) by S. Kanter on Mar 9, 2009 (New York, NY USA)
Generally, I love it! But, it's not without its faults - compared to the original Kindle 1 cover (OC).

PROS:

1. Beautiful leather, with that great fresh leather smell like a luxury car! I got the smooth mocha, and it's quite luxurious, befitting the wonderful device inside. General build quality looks very good, like it will hold up under wear.

2. Holds the K1 much more securely than the OC (although my K1 never slipped out of OC).

3. Wider than OC, with some more grabbing space.

4. Designed for built-in-LED light (which I don't have yet). M-Edge is out of stock for present light, will have new version soon.

5. Price ($35) is down from original $50, and well worth it for this quality.

CONS:

1. Doesn't protect screen as well as OC. There is no pillow-type pad, and something could get into case that could scratch the screen. Hopefully, this is not likely, but a pad like the OC (instead of all the pockets which aren't really needed) would have eliminated any problem.

2. The flap that closes the cover is slightly in the way when holding with the right hand - it just sticks out. When folded over, putting it back in the sleeve makes the cover too bulky. I might get used to it, but now I wish it weren't there.

3. Leather bunches up when folded over - not sure if this is harmful, but it didn't happen with OC.

4. Cover is heavier than original, making it more difficult to hold with one hand.

5. Turning power and wireless switch on and off is more difficult. If you don't take the upper-right band off, it is hard to get one's finger behind it. If you take it off, it's difficult to put back on correctly. A few times my K1 started turning pages automatically without stopping - it was because the band was putting pressure on the next page bar.

CONCLUSION: Despite faults, there is no way I could go back to the original cover. The look and feel of the M-Edge cover greatly enhances the overall kindle experience. If the light works well, it will be significantly more functional. I will add addendum to review when I get the light.
