Dare I say it? For the Price, Much Better than a Macbook Pro
(5 out of 5) by Vinny B! on Apr 26, 2008I bought a laptop with similar, but different specifications. My laptop has 2.4 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM. Everything else is pretty much the same.
Anyway, this laptop is amazing. I have gone through many laptops in the past, including Lenovo Thinkpad T60 and Macbook Pro. However, I wasn't truly satisfied with those expensive purchases. HP offers a cheaper, but still excellent alternatives.
Pros:
- LOVE the glossy white. It looks beautiful
- Laptop is super fast
- Keyboard and trackpad are really nice and makes for a great experience
- Vista SP1 has made improvement from the original release
- Glossy white is not a fingerprint magnet like piano black HP DV6700t
- Notebook doesn't get too warm
- Screen is really clear and the colors
- Very affordable. Great value for the price.
Cons:
- No latch when closing the laptop. This is a minor inconvenience.
- Laptop charger on the right (seems oddly placed)
- HP is notorious for loading PCs with lots of bloatware. This notebook is no exception.
- Vista is still a resource hog, so the 6-cell battery drains pretty quickly.
- Too many stickers. I counted five or six that I had to remove.
Overall, this is a must have. I love the laptop, despite its minor flaws.

Pros: beautiful bright, wide screen. Silent operation [you don't hear the fan]. Extremely comfortable keyboard. Easy to use Quickplay feature, which allows you to play media without booting the machine. Built-in webcam. Very stable Vista. Very long battery life (about 5 hours).
Cons: Wrist rest gets a bit hot after half hour of operation, if you are not in an a/c room. No information on operating the webcam and microphones. This info should be on the desktop. Speakers could sound better.
Bottom line: when I have to upgrade to another laptop in a few years, I'm buying another HP! I love this machine. One thing, though: thanks to Amazon.com I was able to purchase this machine. I live in the Caribbean and HP does not do business with Non US-based customers. I bought the machine from Elecsurf, through Amazon.com, and have had zero problems. Thank you Amazon.com!!
