Very Happy Customer

(5 out of 5) by Big-D on Jan 14, 2009 (Lake Havasu City, AZ United States)
After deciding on a super nice Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52" LCD television mounted on the wall using the Peerless ST650 Universal Tilt Wall Mount and complete Audio System consisting of the Klipsch Quintet SL speaker system, Denon AVR-988 7.1-Channel/5.1+2-Channel Multi-source/Multi-zone Home Theater Receiver, Panasonic DMP-BD55K Blu-ray Disc Player and topped it all off with a Polk Audio DSW MicroPRO 1000 Subwoofer, connected through a Tripp Lite HT1210ISOCTR Home Theater IsPRar Power Center, all sitting on the new Sanus VF5023 Three-shelf component wall-mount. Everything was purchased through Amazon.com, including the required HDMI cables and the Sub-Woofer cable and I received everything within a couple days of one another all within a 7 day period. Great job as usual Amazon!

Tucking my entire system away in a nice neat setup where no wires are showing, I wanted a Sub-Woofer that did not look like a piece of furniture, yet still provided awesome bass, great functionality and adjustability to fit my room acoustics. After doing a lot of research, I was clearly led to the Polk Audio DSW microPro 1000. I purchased it with a fantastic deal online and then received it in just three days.

While setting up my TV and Audio system, I followed the clearly written instructions that were included with the Pro 1000 and had it set up and running in just a few minutes. I first tried it playing a copy CD's, cranking it up to test the bass and made some adjustments to my personal liking. Then I put in a Blu-Ray disk and tried the Pro 1000 while watching a movie with a lot of action. I have to say, the bass was so clear and not over powering at all, yet when scenes in the movie required it, my windows vibrated intensely.

I rate the DSW microPro 1000 a 5 stars because it fits everything I wanted in a SW. Its compact size, its clean attractive appearance and its incredible clear bass that is capable of rocking the house when the volume goes up, yet provides clean crisp lows even at lower volumes where you can have a conversation if wanted.

There was one drawback, and that was the fact the remote control failed to function even when I followed the FAQ & Trouble Shooting Guide pertaining to the remote control. But on a positive side, once I contacted Polk Audio, I am told that a brand new remote is already on its way to me completely free of charge via FedEx. I am the first to realize that any product can suffer the rare occurrence of a piece not working now and then; the important issue is how the company stands behind their product to remedy the situation. When I contacted Polk Audio via telephone, their customer service was first-rate.

Summary: The difference between the Pro 1000 and the 2000 are a couple whistles & bells and the high-gloss finish. But considering the money saved, the Pro 1000 is an awesome unit that fills every requirement I could ever need or want. Again, by simply reading the manual, adjusting the volume and/or setting is as simple as paying attention. I am pushing my system with a Denon AVR-988 that totally blows you away and the bass the Pro 1000 puts out is the icing on the cake. Even with the ever so slight inconvenience with the remote not functioning, I still rate the Pro 1000 5-Stars for being an overall excellent product and Polk Audio's superb customer service!

I never knew a home sound system could sound so perfect!!

The Power of the "Invisible Cube"

(5 out of 5) by Sang on Dec 21, 2008 (Dallas, TX)
This Polk Micropro 1000 is an upgrade that replaces my Onkyo subwoofer (Onkyo HTS790 HTIB). This Micropro 1000 is such a small sub, yet very powerful. It gives a very clean deep bass to the sound system for both music and movie. No, this sub does not output annoying "booming" sound like those cheap subs. My front speakers (Front:Polk Monitor 50's, Center: Polk Monitor CS2) don't have a good bass, but this Micropro 1000 enhances the bass powerfully in a way that you can't really tell if a sub is being used. Although small, this sub shakes the floor if turned on high volume. No distortion was detected during high volume testing. It came with a convenient remote control that can adjust volume and many other functions such as Power, mute, phase, LED...

Heat dissipation is very good as described by Polk Audio. Unlike my Onkyo sub that gets warm to the touch during standby period, this sub is only warm during music or movie playing.

If you are someone who have limited space in your room but want a quality sub, pay a little more and buy this sub. However, this sub is great for any size room.

excellent sub for smaller home theater set up

(4 out of 5) by Ivan J. Marchena on Feb 19, 2009 (Miami, Fl.)
I just received my Polk Micropro 1000 and I'm very satisfied with the product. It's small size compliments (my wife's!) our living/theater room area and fills out the space with great sounding, deep bass. I have it paired with Polk RTi10's (tower) and the CSi5 center channel. I like to hear my music and movies a bit loud and I blew my last sub, another 8" sub, about 2 weeks ago (watching "Cloverfield"). After lots of reviewing and searching I came across the Micropro 1000 and just knew it was going to be powerful enough to handle the amount of power I will be pushing through this little sub based on all the specs I've read. The volume maxes out at '40'. I wanted to push it a little so I set it there and experienced no distortion whatsoever. I lowered it to '35' and set the receiver accordingly and I'm in music and movie heaven. 2400 continuos watt handling is no joke. You could spend a little less for a bigger sub, but it will not be as aesthetically, or musically adept as this little powerhouse. I'll stand by this sub and put it against any sub in the same price-range. Yes, even with a bigger woofer. Another point I want to make: I don't think it's worth it to spend another $500 for the Micropro 2000 just to get a microphone, auto-tuning and gloss finish. Let your ears do the tuning! You'll wind up changing the auto-tune setting anyway! Trust me, you will. It's the same speaker! I totally recommend this speaker. Feel free to respond if you wish.

Good things come in small packages.

I'll be brief and to the point. Just bought a Harman Kardon AVR 3550HD 7x75-Watt 1080p from Amazon. Amazing. I was at a loss as to what to get as far as a sub. Did some research and decided on this little jewel. Folks its plug and play, clean and crisp. Very minor adjustments thru the remote and you have magic in a box. Sounds fantastic and here is the kicker. Hide it!!! Your friends will be dazzled and so will you. There are more expensive subs, but why pay more? This sub rocks....literally! By the way I paid $370 plus 25 for shipping from WholesaleAV which is an Amazon retailer and they got it to me in 4 days!

A lotta sub in a little package.

(5 out of 5) by Robert A. Cooper on Apr 21, 2009 (Sydney NSW, Australia)
I should state right off, that most audiophiles will probably agree with me that dedicated sub manufacturers like SVS and Hsu probably do a better job at producing really high-end sub-woofers than Polk, but holy cow, this really is a gem, particularly at this price and at this size. I can't believe the quality and volume this little cube that isn't much bigger than a 12 pack is able to produce. I have it placed in a fairly large room (20x25) and it can really fill the space, almost as well as the top of the line SVS (which is the size of a small fridge and not exactly pleasing to look at.)

Though the cone itself is only 8" (albeit driven by a 1200W on-board amp), it really hits the good low rumbles below 40Hz. The smaller speaker size also allows the sound to be more punchy and responsive, not the boomy, muddy sound of some other subs. Whether or not you prefer that type of sound from your subwoofer is subjective, but personally, I like my explosions to, well, explode, not come a rumbling in on a freight train. So for me, this little unit really is perfect.
