Another Master Piece

(5 out of 5) by A. Mirza on Jan 7, 2009
Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS is a top of the line head unit for people with extraordinary detail for music. It has options that I have not seen on any other head unit so far. I have had it in my Honda accord for almost a year now. The Pre-amp outputs are way to strong and that was my main deciding factor since I was hooking up an amp.

The 16 band equalizer not to mention is just amazing. I also bought the USB interface unit for it and hooked it up. My only regret is that it does not display the name of the song when hooked on to the USB. Also, every time I turn off my car, the USB songs don't resume from where I left off or from the beginning of the song I was listening to before I shut off my car but from the first song in the first folder
I was in two minds when I bought it, especially since other units out there offer features like inbuilt Bluetooth and USB ready for a lesser price when compared to this baby but let me tell you its worth every penny for the price and far worth comprising other features.

I gave the unit a 5 because the quality of sound it produces along with the options it has to offer that let you fine tune your music is absolutely FANTASTIC!

An Excellent Headunit

(5 out of 5) by S. Gill on Jul 8, 2008 (Miami, Florida United States)
The Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS is an excellent head unit for persons looking to optimize the sound quality of there system, with tons of tune ability though the use of its built in filters, and its adjustable 16 Band EQ you are able to tune the sound to just where you want it.

overall I have no problems with the unit and I'm very satisfied with its performance, after installing this unit the difference in sound was heard instantly! and after tuning it was amazing.

If its sound quality and control you're after this is the Head Unit for you.

The best I've experienced

High customization and clarity. If you are an audiophile you will not be disappointed. However, be prepared to spend some cash for speakers and an amplifier. It doesn't do this head-unit justice to skimp on the muscle behind the sound. If you want longevity then this thing provides plenty of headroom for customization. It was budget friendly and beautifully engineered (the big equalizer is worth the cash by itself).

(update) After approximately a week of usage

Tuning this thing is addictive. The 16 band equalizer and other features that I have yet to figure out make the sound highly customizable almost to a fault....so a word of caution....the equalizer is highly sensitive and you can tune it out of whack if your not careful. I cannot begin to count the number of times I've had to start over to re-tune and balance the sound. Also, speaker quality matters big-time. If you have an amp, you will definitely begin to see the strengths and limitations of your speakers at certain frequencies when the volume is high. The best thing to look for in my opinion is not necessarily frequency response ( if your after range then get a full setup but most "humans" can't hear everything that even budget speakers can put out ) but rather the sensitivity rating and the wattage limits. The higher the better. The more power you can put through speakers a high sensitivity rating the better quality volume they'll return. Good luck with you system. I definitely recommend this head-unit as a start so great system.

(update) After approximately a month of usage

Speakers took a long time to break in. It wasn't until last week that I began to hear some clean bottom end bass through my 6.5's. Was very impressed to say the least. I recommend finding out how to tune your amplifier. I heard one method of getting the best quality sound out of your mids-upper range speakers is to first set the eq to flat, including curves, and blast your speakers at full volume. Afterward, go to your 4channel amp and filter out the distortion with the crossover. I know that the car audiophile may think that this is common knowledge, but if you're entering into this kind of hobby, its probably vital info. I plan on doing this after I get my mono amp and sub. Until then I need all the bass I can get, so I'm not ready to filter those newly discovered signals just yet.

Also, I managed to figure out how to set curves. The head-unit provides a graph and remember the graph moves on the x and y coordinates for a reason. X axis appears to be frequency response and the y-axis appears to be the decibel level. Keep this in mind and you can tune those speakers more accurately. Needless to say, mid range curve customization matters hugely. If you are trying to tune a decent custom equalizer setting, understand that customizing the curve frequency of your mids will change their range. It also serves as a sudo front and rear fade. Good luck tuning it LOL, and don't get discouraged if it doesn't work out perfectly the first time. It took me a month to figure it out and I tune it every day for 2 hours while I'm commuting on the interstate. It wasn't until a few days ago that I got the eq and the curves just right. But the time paid of big time. It literally sounds like a concert inside my car. Love it! Commuting is quite the experience these days.

Its unfortunate that this head-unit is not for sale anymore. If you can find it GRAB IT!

Poor Customer Service

(2 out of 5) by W. Thomas on May 19, 2009 (Trinidad)
I purchased this unit from Amazon two years ago.I must say that the sound from this unit is beautiful, and I really enjoyed it. However the motorized faceplate stopped functioning, which in turn caused the unit to stop functioning. My technician told me that the ribbon which provides power to the faceplate broke.
I have since attempted to contact Pioneer on numerous occasions, both by telephone, and e-mail, to purchase the part, but without success.
So presently I am stuck with an expensive, beautiful, dead unit, all because of Pioneer's extremely poor customer service.
I would appreciate help from any knowledgeable person in this matter.
