Great product!

I purchased this product the Phillips Multi Region Code free DVD player because I have leagally purchased DVD's from several countries and I have found that it plays all of them.

Does the job seemlessly

(4 out of 5) by P. Goddard on Feb 1, 2009 (Sweden)
After living overseas for more than four years, and being fairly big movie watchers, we collected lots of foreign movies. It doesn't seem to matter what we put in this machine, it plays it and quickly too. The only thing I don't like is the remote, it seems cheaply made (maybe it's just the weight) and is white while the unit is sleek black. And no eject button. But the menu system is logical and clean. Overall, this was a good buy, glad we got it.

No such Thing as Code Free From Phillips

(1 out of 5) by Columbia College Hollywood on Mar 4, 2009 (USA)
I ordered 3 of these units for our college, a week later I checked back to see when they shipped. I was told by Amazon that VCT had cancelled the order but they did not know why, so I e mailed VCT and have not heard back.
I called PHILLIPS and was told that they do not make a, Philips Region Zonefree 1080p Hdmi Upscaling Dvd Player with USB
2.0 and Divx Ultra (Model Philips DVP 5992)"?? I don't know what's going on but there is obviously an issue with VCT electronics.

Illegal DVD player.

(1 out of 5) by H. P. Andrus on Dec 4, 2009
The sound system quit working while it was still under the manufacturer's warranty. I called Philips directly and they were willing to replace my DVD player until they discovered that it was sold by VCT electronics as an All-Region Player. Philips doesPHILIPS - ALL REGION 1080p UPSCALING HI-DEF MULTI REGION DIVX CERTIFIED DVD PLAYER. PLAYS PAL/NTSC DVDS FROM ANY COUNTRY ON AMERICAN TV. not sell such a player in the United States since it is illegal--something I did not know. Before it was sold to me on Amazon, the DVD player had been cracked open and illegal software had been added, thus voiding the warranty. That software was flimsy and poorly written and didn't work well from the get-go. The sound track would sometimes flip off track and we would have to shut the player off and start it over. It eventually gave out completely. It lasted with intermittent use for over the 90-day return and refund policy of both Amazon and VCT Electronics, so now we have a player that works without a sound track and no way to return it under the warranty because it was illegally tampered with. We are out almost $100. We are not amused.

Worked great for a few months.....

Like the other 'one star' reviewers, this DVD player has given up the ghost after only 5 months. From one day to the next the screen turned a bright orange when no DVD was played and when a DVD was played the colors were all off with a strong orange tint. Apparently Philips do not sell this product directly so it looks like the seller is unlocking these DVD players before selling them. I'm not optimistic about any kind of warranty resolution. Buy at your own risk.
