Just What I Wanted!!!!
My 10 y.o. bedroom CRT-TV had been connected to a 6 y.o. Emerson DVD-VCR Player.
The DVD picture quality was OK. However, I had since converted the VCR's to DVD's and had no use for the Emerson to play VCR's. I had been wirelessly streaming music CD's via a PC located in another room to the bedroom audio system. The Emerson could not play audio CD's. Also, being an insomniac I didn't feel like getting out of bed to change media...whether it was DVD's or CD's...What I wanted was a unit that could play both types of media...alternately and be able to quickly change from one DVD or CD to another.
This unit DOES it. The DVD picture quality is great, the SONY 5 disc changer is not fussy about DRM...if Nero can burn it...the SONY can play it!!!!
The enclosed installation instruction manual is well-done...straight forward with illustrations.....
When it changes discs it is a little noisy....but the pros so outweigh this small con that it's not even worth mentioning. Also...the remote is excellent...I have not used it to also control the TV, However, It responds well to all disc functions.

Very nice unit, but "shuffle play" is not what The Founding Fathers intended.
The DVP-NC800H is a good unit that is very versatile with one glaring exception: The random shuffle play does not shuffle across all discs. The manual says (and this was confirmed by Sony), "All Discs Repeat is automatically changed into One Disc Repeat when you set to shuffle play mode. You can only shuffle the contents of the current disk." I will return this unit in favor of one that has traditional shuffling capability.

Very good player
This is a very good player. I've had no problems at all with it, so far, which is more than I can say for the last to DVD players I've purchased (RCA models). This time, I wanted Sony because my Sony DVD Writer has been an outstanding performer. I was please (but not surprised) to find that they did a great job on this one too. The ONLY thing I've found about it that I don't like is that on the tray, the disk numbers are stamped into the black plastic, so you cannot read them without really good lighting. I resolved this on mine by coloring the raised plastic numbers with a silver Sharpie so that I can see them. Yes, it's not a professional job, so not esthetically pleasing, but the tray's only out and visible when I'm switching discs, so I can live with that.

Worth the money and then some.
I wanted a DVD player with 1080P up conversion that I could also use for playing five or more CDs. I got it in this unit. The picture is spectacular shown on my new Sony LCD TV. The sound quality is great either through the TV's HDMI connection or, better still, channeled through my Sony receiver via a coaxial cable.
The Sony DVP-NC800H also works with my Sony TV via Bravia sync. You can use either remote control to operate various functions and turn on and off both units at the same time.
Even in this day and age, it's unbelievable that you can purchase a versatile unit like this for such a cheap price.
If you are looking for a HDMI DVD player with 5-disc changer capability that will also play just about every CD and DVD format out there, this is the one to buy.

Shame on Sony! Mine lasted less than 6 months!
I purchased this DVP NC800H on St Patrick's Day of this year, and it's just started doing the SAME thing that everyone else is complaining about in these reviews:
Display says, "Loading, Loading," accompanied by strange whirrings and clicks, finally to stop alltogether. The discs that played just fine two days ago are now unable to work at all. We treat our electronics very carefully, making the breakdown that much more frustrating and infuriating! Please beware of the obvious pattern Sony's products are displaying. Shame on you, Sony, for such shoddy "quality".
I'm spending my hard-earned money on another brand !!
