Nice entry level Component Home Theater System with some flaws.

Sony HTDDWG700 Component Home Theater System - Black
This is a quick and dirty review (Pictures included). The 700 is a nice affordable entry level HTS,
*Pro's

*iPhone compatible ( it will say that the accessory is not made to work with the iPhone) but it does work you can even change the songs pause and play with the included remote control. It will also charge the iPhone.
*Playstation 3 compatible via TOS (Digital Audio Cable {Optical})
*Customizable input name.
*Clear sound
*Powerful 900watts
*Looks sharp
*Headphone Surround
*DIGITAL MEDIA PORT
*XM Connect & Play Ready

*Con's

*Claims to have Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (Mic Included) it does NOT have one.
*Can hear a popping sound from time to time
*Universal remote control not so universal, will not work with any TV other then Sony.
*Universal remote control needs a very clear line of sight. Poor IR transmitter
*Only has one HDMI port
*Only has one TOS input

For the money it is well worth the price. I would buy it again if I need an entry level HT. This is not for the top of the line seekers. But for those of us that want 5.1 for a smaller living room or basement. I Gave it a 4 out of 5 stars for the price & content of the system. If anyone has a question you can p.m. me.

Nice system for the mone

(4 out of 5) by A. Platoff on Sep 11, 2008 (Jersey City, NJ United States)
So far the only unfortunate finding has been the Sony wires which are low grade and hard wired o each speaker. It would be nice to have the option of upgrading with my own higher qualithy speaker wires but even if spliced, the inserts into the back of the receiver would not be able to accept a thicker grade wire. It is also limited on the inputs

Worth the price

It's worth the price and adds good surround sound to your system! I bought a SONY BRAVIA LCD and a SONY BluRay so I needed a surround system at a bargain. I am pleased with it, but it doesn't have buttons for radio stations and it's difficult to change stations with the remote. You can use the ONE remote for the SONY TV, BluRay and AV, but the buttons are tiny and you have to learn them.

Overall, I got what I expected, a good surround/receiver at a GREAT price and much cheaper than buying the receiver and speakers!

Great for the price

(4 out of 5) by Richard Greenhalgh on Dec 23, 2008 (Wimberley, TX USA)
For under two hundred bucks it's hard to beat this system. I bought it for a bedroom and it's outstanding in that application. I did upgrade the center channel speaker with a KLH and it made all the difference in the world, next I plan on a 10" or 12" powered sub and I'll never get any sleep. The 900 watt rating is a bit optimistic (it has to be peak and not RMS), but it will still rattle the walls. For less than the price of the center channel speaker alone, in my living room system, this is a great buy and the security of dealing with Amazon makes it all the better.

sony htddwg700 is a very good deal for the cost.

A great sound improvement over my TV stereo speakers. For $200 to have solid quad sound and a very good sub is well worth it...not for audiophiles or for very big rooms where you have to overdrive the speakers. But for me, a smallish square room, I never have to turn it up past halfway and my DVD movies, satellite TV and music fill the room with clear sound and the sub rumbles and shakes the room.
