Works great with skype for linux & windows

High quality for a low price

I don't have a webcam to enjoy the intricacies of gadgets and software. I have one so that I can easily stay in contact with others, and occasionally do video at my computer.
Awhile back I got a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000. While it worked well, it seemed like the software was particularly bloated and I never quite felt everything was working as easy as it should. It's a good webcam, but I thought there must be something better and simpler.
I got this microsoft webcam to see how it would compare. Not only is it a 1/3 of the price, it's also a 1/3 of the hassle, and has better functioning. The logitech would always take a while for face recognition. This LifeCam does not even show any lag in identifying a face. The low light ability is much better and overall I think this cheaper webcam works much better. Add the fact the LifeCam is much more flexible for a variety of computers and settings and I think my Logitech might be retired or handed off.
I suspect the audio is better on the Logitech but not significantly so. I definitely recommend the LifeCam for anyone who is looking for a basic, not too many frills, webcam for general use. It is simple to use and it works as well as others I've seen.

This is a very well made and handy camera

The microphone is very sensitive and picks up voices quite well. The price is reasonable. One suggestion I would make is not to pay extra for a specific color on the unit (comes with either red, green, or blue). You really can't see it very well anyway. This is a nice little camera and downloaded the software without incident on my Window's Vista. It works great with Skype.

Great Product

I did not. This thing works great. I was shocked at the quality of the images within the limitations of a web cam. If you need good photo quality, buy a digital camera. If you need great videos, buy a video camera. If you want a great web cam, buy this one. Why would you want a web cam for videos and pictures anyway? There is a cord attached and you would have to work with that limitation. It works perfectly for what it is intended to do. It does not work well on photos or video if you are comparing it to products designed specifically for that purpose.
I have compared this little web cam with $100 Logic techs and, believe it or not, the video quality is better, so is the low light capability. The only lighting I use is the LCD screen of my computer. It supplies all the light this thing needs!
The software has been much commented on. I find it more than adequate. I am not sure what the other companies offer, but this one has all I need. It does have the funny pictures paste on stuff, but this is for kids. The quality is first class, the installation was painless (Vista) and I am very happy with this web cam.
