Cumbersome and somewhat limited adjustability

(3 out of 5) by consumer on Aug 27, 2009
We have the Samsung 67" HL67A750 DLP LED tv which has a spectacular picture but marginal sound. We bought the HT-X810 primarily to improve voice quality on cable standard and high def broadcasting and dvd. To do this, separate audio cables (l & r) must be connected from the tv "audio out" to the ht "audio in" (or you can use a single optical cable). Then, you must scroll through the various input options which only read out on the small digital screen on the ht box, not simultaneously on the tv. The ht digital screen is too small to be seen from 12-15 feet away. Even when you find the correct input, there is a several second delay before the sound begins (this isn't a problem if you know you've got the right input but, as noted, you can't see it from viewing distance). When playing a dvd (doesn't play Blu-Ray) the sound originates from the ht, not the tv. The ht box doesn't have an equalizer and other sound adjustment capability that tv has. No treble, no base, nothing to customize to your preference. As others have noted, the sub-woofer booms even at lowest settings and isn't adjustable. I called Samsung customer service and spoke with someone who was much more interested in gathering extensive demographic data than answering my questions. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was ingnored. Finally, she stated she needed to obtain help and put me on hold. After 3-4" she had not returned so I hung up.
I plan to return this to [...] and will continue to search for a unit that allows better sound adjustability.

Great Savings for the best product

(5 out of 5) by M. Stauffer on Apr 27, 2009 (Greenville, SC)
I had just purchased the 52" SAMSUNG Plasma Flatscreen and looked at the Samsung Home Theater sound bar at Best Buy ($499.00 on sale)very pricey and comparison of other bar's there is no comparison in the sound of the Samsung. When I installed my Flatscreen the sound was tinny, TV sound. Back to Best Buy the price on the Home Theater sound bar was back at the $699 original price, but now I was convinced I needed it-inflation. I Googled the Home Theater Sound Bar and saw that Amazon had 2 for sale open box. I was not sure that I should, but I bought the sound bar system after reviewing the return policy. 3 days later I got the bar. ( I don't know was "open box" It was perfectly packaged.) I mounted it on the wall and using the optical cord and the HDMI cords all purchased from AMAZON I think now I had spent $12 on three cords.(great cords-gold plated). It worked the first time and I haven't looked back it has almost been a month. The Sound is very good. the base is a little loud and I need to figure how to control the boom. You need to be patient with the DVD. What a look on my wall and no visible wires. Also the SAMSUNG customer service was very patient in helping me to understand the combination of TV and Sound Bar. Thanks Amazon. You saved me $500 dollars.

Great Alterantive to 5 speaker surround

(5 out of 5) by Gina Tomasello on Dec 28, 2008 (San Diego, Ca)
Bought this a Christmas gift for my husband to add the the 42" Samsung Tv in our bedroom. This is a great alternative to a 5 speaker surround system and the subwoofer is wireless. They say you can place the subwoofer up to 32" away from the main unit but if I place it on the floor it cuts out and doesn't work very well. I moved it to on top of the dresser and it works fine. Seems to have to be directly in the line of site of the main unit to function properly. I would recommend this unit to anyone seeking to improve the sound from thier TV in a bedroom but would NOT recommend for stereo sound in a living room.....for watching movies it is GREAT but listing to music leaves alot to be desired. Just evaluate what your intended purpose is and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Doesn't come with HDMI Cables. I ordered mine from Eforcity on Amazon.com, Best price I've ever seen for cables! Amazon shipped this unit to me OVERNIGHT.I signed up for their Amazon Prime Free 2 day Shipping program and was able to upgrade the shipping on this item to Overnight for 3.99.
UPDATE TO REVIEW...NOV 2009 ....I'm experiencing problems with DVD player in this unit. I've read other reviews on this site regarding people experiencing the same problem. I went to [...] and submitted a warranty repair service order which was relatively easy. The facotry warranty is 1 year. Once on Samsungs website click the support tab and go to Troubleshooting. There you will be able to submit an online service request.

Design Flaw and No Customer Service

(1 out of 5) by Michael B. Bolinger on Apr 12, 2009 (Fort Lauderdale)
This item has a design flaw, a very delicate plastic sliding cover over the DVD port that breaks very easily. Item broke after only a few months and when I tried to contact Samsung to have the unit repaired under warranty they refused, saying the break was the result of my negligence. They do not have home repair or local service, and insisted I ship the item for service. I took the item back where I bought it and the plastic cover on their floor model was also broken. Brandsmart refunded my purchase price, meanwhile I am still waiting on a call back from Samsung "case study". Samsung has the worst customer service I've ever seen in my life. I would highly recommend buying another unit. This one is flawed and if/when it breaks Samsung absolutely will not stand behind their product.

looks good but works lousy

(2 out of 5) by S. Katabjiwala on Nov 4, 2009
We bought this system in Dec 2008 and already the problems are evident in less than a year of limited use. most of the problems are with the DVD player , most of the disc just dont work but when we install them in an old player that we have it works fine. presently the samsung dvd just does not play any dvds at all...trying to call Samsung cust service is a nightmare with hold time of over 20 minutes.....
