Great overall, a few minor issues

(4 out of 5) by Guillermo A. Llerena on Sep 3, 2009 (Stirling, NJ United States)
This system is great for my 10x12 living room in a NYC apartment. The sound quality is good and the bass is plentiful (maybe too much at times). Three issues:

1) No equalizer. Typically not an huge concern for me, but this means the sub-woofer is either insane (with DVDs) or non-existent (with many broadcasts)

2) No HDMI input. This means you will need to get a Optical cable to take advantage of decent sound quality (Dolby Digital). This is only a problem if your cable box insists on defaulting to HDMI sound output constantly (like mine does, or if you have several components you want to connect(my TV and the HT only have one Optical port)

3) The Anynet+ feature tends to act erratically if you're using a cable box remote instead of a Samsung one. This function is easily turned off, but then you've eliminated any convenience of purchasing like-branded items.

For $200 this is a great starter system for new HD users or someone with a simply setup.

Best 2.1 system "pound for pound"

This is the first review I have ever written. I always buy things off of Amazon. But I was impressed with this system. Let's just say I was looking for about 6 months for the best system. It sounds great with my MP3 player, HD reciever, PS3 and Blu-rays. I even listen to music from my Blackberry Curve through blu-tooth! Took 15 minutes to set up. I think this blows the competetion out of the water. I got it for $199. I was very close to purchasing sony's soundbar. But the max sound on that thing sucks a**. And it's $100 more expensive. Samsung even extended my manufacturers warranty an extra 3 months for registering my product!! It's very hard finding professional reviews on this unit. But I'm so glad I trusted amazon's reviews! Your not going to find a better system for your money unless it's stolen!! lol

Can't beat it for the price

I've been using this system for a few months, and I am very pleased with it. This stereo has good sound, and is very loud for a medium size room. We use it to play DVD's, CD's, listen to the radio, listen to TV. My computer was not bluetooth enabled, so I bought an adapter for under $10 - and now I can listen to music from my computer (eg, Itunes) without connecting any cables! There are a few pauses every once in a while, but no big deal.
Pros: Price, volume, multiple applications, aesthetics
Cons: the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars: there are no controls for bass, treble, etc. There are two settings (P-bass and virtual headphone) which do not help the sound in my opinion. This is NOT a system for 'audiophiles'.
Summary: For a little more than you'd spend on an upconverting DVD player, you get that plus the speakers, subwoofer, FM tuner, bluetooth capability... all in a very slick looking compact system. For the price, you can't beat it!

Cannot beat for the money.

Nice small form factor, along with the small price make this 2.1 theater surround system a great choice for small rooms/areas. The virtual surround sound is much better than I had expected (as stated by other reviews) and the Bluetooth works great. I had no problems connecting my MacBook Pro and listening to iTunes over the home theater (just no luck connecting my iPhone...no big deal though).

This home theater system is a steal

(5 out of 5) by J. Clark on Jan 10, 2009 (Cleveland, OH)
I recently bought the 40" Samsung LCD HDTV and bought this home theater system to compliment it. Initially, I could only get sound through the theater speakers while playing a DVD. After some experimentation, I was able to use the home stereo speakers with the TV. The theater is excellent. My only complaint, and a very, very minor one, there is no control on the woofer, so the base comes in a little strong at times. As to the sturdiness of the system, I originally had one speaker sitting on a shelf about head high. The first DVD we watched had a shoot-out scene with base so heavy it blew the speaker off the shelf to a wooden floor below. The speaker was not damaged (but is now hung more securely!)
I am very satisfied with the system and at $199, it's a steal.
