Better than Bose if you have an iPhone

(5 out of 5) by R. S. Hackney on Jul 7, 2009 (Florida USA)
I have a Bose Sound-dock and this Altec-Lansing system. The Bose cost almost three times as much and the box stated that it would work with the iPhone. Guest what? It doesn't, except in "airplane" mode (when you insert the iPhone, a warning on the screen states the device is NOT compatible with iPhone and asks if you want to switch to "airplane" mode to reduce audio RF interference). Not so for the A-L - it works flawlessly with my iPhone - even my new 3GS.

As for sound quality, Bose makes a big deal out of not allowing you to adjust anything but volume, claiming that it most accurately reproduces the sound of the recording. Well, apparently a lot of rap and hip-hop recordings were intended to be "light" on the bass, if that is true.

The Altec-Lansing has very adjustable bass and treble settings to allow you to customize the sound for the particular type of music being played - and, to my discerning ear, does a better job than the much more expensive Bose.

This is a super compact speaker system for your iPod or iPhone and produces surprising sound quality (rather like that promised - but not delivered - by all of those Bose ads on TV). Even better, it truly is compatible with your iPhone.

A great price for a great product. You can't go wrong!

Great Sound

(4 out of 5) by Raymond Demars on Jun 10, 2009
The Altec Lansing T612 has a Great sound.. Lot's of base which I like.

The remote is a little small and you must point directly at the system otherwise it does not work.

Other than that I would recommend this system to anyone.

Great for the iPhone

(5 out of 5) by N. Austin on Feb 7, 2009 (Mesquite, TX USA)
You can't beat Amazon's price on the T612 and I got mine in 6 days even with standard free shipping....

Pro's: Works with the iPhone and comes with the docking adapter installed. You'll get a message saying its not compatible each time you plug the iPhone in & asking if you want to go into Airplane mode, click No and the phone works fine without static. Good smooth sound but not overly bright (a subjective area). Unit is very heavy & solid (I'm guessing its the speaker magnets) All the dark gray plastic areas have a semi-soft texture (quality feel). The T612 charges your iPhone in the dock whether the unit is powered on or not.

Con's: The remote doesn't do much with the iPhone. You can turn the unit On/Off, adjust Volume, Bass and Treble. Play/Pause & skip features appear to be for the standard iPod only. You have to order any other Nano type adaptors from AL. The iPhone doesn't seat onto the dock as smoothly & quickly as I'd like but its a minor point.

I really like the sound & looks & quality of the T612.

Great speaker doc for iphone 3gs!

(5 out of 5) by airica79 on Oct 21, 2009 (Richmond, VA)
I just received my speaker doc today. I actually bought it through [...] for the same price. I was a little nervous about buying this since some people had bad reviews about it not working with the iphone. It works just fine with mine and my phone is only a month old. The speaker is very nice, it has kind of a rubbery texture to it which makes it really nice. You do have to take off the adapter piece if you are docking an iphone though but that's no big deal. Sound is awesome and can get pretty loud. There is no interference with the iphone at all. It is a little annoying that everytime you dock your iphone and the speaker is on it will ask if you want to put it in airplane mode; I wish there was a default NO button. Other than those minor things it is well worth the money. It also comes with an audio out cable for use with mp3 players which is very nice. If you are thinking about buying it you won't be let down.
