Wow. Perfect Match for iPod Touch 2nd Gen
We've had the T612 for a month now and are absolutely delighted. Great across-the-spectrum sound out of the box. As good as our Bose in the bedroom--and in one way better. Because the T612 is so compact, it can fit almost flush against the wall. And because you can wall-mount it near ear level, the sound is SO present. BTW, the wallmount kit is free from Altec Lansing--just $[...] for shipping [...]
I've got it mounted in the kitchen where I cook most nights, and being able to hear my own music played so crisply and also explore Pandora so easily (its right there at eye-level) is so much fun.
Even in its leather case the iPod Touch 2nd Gen seats well and charges in a flash.
We use a meditation timer app in the morning--and with the iTouch seated on the T612, the singing bowl has never sounded so rich and clear--and this is coming from the kitchen through the dining room into the living area.
We're pleased.

Great iPod Speaker System
This is a terrific speaker system for the iPod Touch , Nano or Classic. I previewed about 7 speaker systems at the Apple store, picked this one because it had the best sound for the money, and then purchased it from Amazon where it was less expensive. It is compact and delivers a wonderfully rich sound. It also charges the iPod while playing it. Good product!

response to criticisms
The Altec Lansing digital speaker indeed does work with the iphone even if when the iphone is first docked it states it doesn't. When it says would you like to turn on airplane mode simply push no and play your tunes. It will work fine. This quirk like has some thing to do with differences between the first and second iterations of the iphone itself. This is a good value for the price and its built to last and very rugged. Best of all it's one sale now. I own about three other speaker systems for the iphone /ipod including the Bose and Apple's own unit. This unit is stylish and sonically will give accurate musical reproduction and adequate bass response. Very sturdy build quality. I have not seen a better value for a self contained speaker unit. This is a no brainer. There is not need to go out and waste more money. Kudos to Altec Lansing.

Beware ipod touch 16gb users
This is a warning for IPOD TOUCH 16GB users who are considering the Altec Lansing T612 Speaker: Despite the fact that Altec will tell you the 16gb touch is compatible with this speaker, IT IS NOT. With the first Speaker I received, I found that I had to move the ipod touch around and attempt multiple docks with the ipod touch adapter that came with my ipod to get sound to come through the speaker. When I finally would get it work, even the slightest vibration on the table where the speaker sat would cause the sound to stop coming through the speaker. Even without vibration, the music would suddenly stop with the ipod turning off. I sent that speaker back and received a replacement thinking I had a faulty speaker. Unfortunately, the 2nd speaker was worse than the first. I could not get any music to come through the speaker using the correct docking adapter. I called Altec tech support and was told others have complained of this but the unit is compatible. I then was told to remove the docking adapter and try the speaker without the adapter-- holding the ipod straight up. This worked but as soon as I let go of the ipod, the speaker stopped working. Apparently, that is what Altec Lansing considers "compatible". I was told no other Altec Lansing speaker is compatible with the 16gb ipod touch.
Update 7/28/09: Ultimately, after searching around for a decent, well priced speaker for my ipod touch, I decided to go with this T612 unit with the plan to use the auxillary cable (that comes with the speaker) and jack in the back of the unit which is for any mp3 player. This works well enough and is one solution but the ipod won't charge through that. Since the touch holds a decent charge, I'm okay with this. The sound quality is decent for the price when the touch volume is turned to the max. Hopefully a unit designed for the Touch will come out from Altec because at this time they don't have it. And, in case you were wondering, the 3rd time wasn't the charm-- my ipod touch doesn't work any better in the dock.

If it connects, it's fantastic. Otherwise, it sucks.
I have an iPhone 3GS, and loved this speaker at first. It's beautiful, and when the iPhone connected, it worked fantastically well. However, over time the iPhone would not consistently connect. If I pushed the iPhone down hard on the connector, it always connects, but as soon as I let go sometimes the iPhone disconnects. Over time this gets really annoying. It may do a better job of connecting with an iPod, I don't know. I do know I had to return it.
