Perfect office cubicle companion

(5 out of 5) by A. Dahl on Jul 16, 2008 (Seattle, WA)
This is my first Altec Lansing purchase. It's also my first docking station purchase for my iPhone because it's the only shielded device avaialable (as of the time I'm typing this).

Set up was a breeze, the iPhone sits perfectly in the cradle even with the extra large cork case I have on it. The best part!? There's absolutely NO dit-a-dit-a-dit-a-dit-dit-dit interference noise when I receive calls or texts while the phone is docked! The sound quality is great, even at very, very low volume levels. Unfortunately, I can't blast the sound while at work so I can't speak to full volume sound quality.

If I had to wish for something better, I would ask that the remote allow for more advanced menu/song selection. It only offers basic PWR, VOL +/-, BASS/TREBLE adjustment, TRACK +/- and play/pause. It would be nice to have a rotary style remote wherein I could browse other artists and playlists without having to touch the iPhone.

Other than that minor gripe, I'm much happier at work now that I have my iPhone and iPod playing at work and getting charged at the same time. This is a great product which I'm very pleased with!

Great Sound & nice user controls - Docking a little dodgy

(4 out of 5) by Dr. Jack G. May III on Jun 13, 2008 (Tallahassee, FL USA)
This is only docking/speaker product explicitly designed for iPhone that is currently available. It has great sound, good user controls, and is still compact for portability. No trace of interference from the iPhone but the docking action is not very tight and I have to place a foam rubber spacer behind the iPhone to get a reliable connection. As long as you remember to use such a spacer the unit rocks.

When a call comes in on the iPhone the unit pauses but you have to remove the iPhone from the unit to take the call. When finished just return the iPhone to the dock (with foam rubbedr spacer) and the music resumes.

Beautiful sound for my iTouch

(5 out of 5) by Stephen M. Charme on Jan 13, 2009 (Cranford, NJ United States)
I bought this for my iTouch 16 GB 2G primarily to play music in my office at work. This unit produces a nice, clear and distinct sound at low volume (as I must play it in my office), and sounds amazing at high volume (when I am working late or on weekends in the office and can crank it up).

My iTouch sits securely in the charging dock, which charges the iTouch even when the speakers are turned off (such as when I have to take a call).

The unit has a nice appearance that matches the iTouch well.

It would not be realistic to expect any kind of graphic equalizer on a unit such as this, which has only rudimentary adjustments for bass and treble, though the bass adjustment does make a noticeable difference.

The remote is very simple, and controls volume, play/pause, reverse/forward and the bass and treble. Changing artists or albums must be done on the iTouch itself.

If you keep in mind that this is not a full blown stereo system with all kinds of controls, but rather a very portable and nice sounding way to use your iTouch, you will not be disappointed. My only minor gripe is that Altec chose to use a clunky two part "brick" plug, which makes transporting the unit a little less convenient. But unless you plan to move it every day, that is not a consideration.

I am very happy with the sound and ease of use. Using Pandora free radio I can listen all day to different kinds of music that I like. I recommend this unit.

Great iPod Speaker!

(5 out of 5) by Coffy6 on Mar 16, 2009 (Trenton, NJ United States)
I was skeptical about ordering this speaker system because I intended to buy the BOSE system. The Gold Box offer for the Altec Lansing T612 was $104.99 last week, so I figured I would give it a shot. I'm glad I did. This is a very good sounding, powerful system. The size is just right to sit on any shelf, table, dresser, nightstand, etc... The system works perfect with my iPod Nano 4G, and I couldn't beat that price. The system also has an additional power source output jack, so you can plug in a cd player/dvd player, headphones or whatever.

Doesn't work with OS 3.1

(5 out of 5) by tamborine on Sep 28, 2009 (New Jersey, USA)
I bought this speaker several months ago, and have been very happy with it. Since I'm not really an audiophile, I used it to listen to audio books, and as a speaker for my alarm clock app. I liked it because it doesn't have the junky shiny plastic-y look of some other speakers, and is not a clock-radio. But its most important feature for me was the ability to charge my iPhone 3G. The other day I was stupid enough to "upgrade" to OS 3.1 - now, in addition to all the innumerable other problems that caused, I get the "Airplane Mode" message when I put my phone in the speaker dock, and the phone doesn't charge. This is really an Apple issue, but buyer beware: if you have OS 3.1 this speaker will (probably) not work as advertised.
