Impressed so far.

So far I have to say I am impressed initially. That said, I have only owned it a week. I do fear that this dvd player may not last too long given spotty reliability reports in the long run. Only time will tell. It seems some people have bad luck, some people just don't realize how hard they are on this type of portable device, and some of it is likely Coby being a mediocre off brand. One certainly doesn't see as many complaints about Sony products of this nature. Nonetheless, I am not one to buy extended warranties but I did buy the 2 year plan from SquareTrade for about $10. Squaretrade has positive reviews here on Amazon and elsewhere. I think in this case the portable dvd player is an item built for an extended warranty, particularly keeping Coby's bad reputation and poor customer service in mind. I plan on using my warranty before the two years are up. I would even bet on it, lol. It's not that this item is that bad, it's pretty decent honestly, it's just the nature of the portable/budget beast and Coby.

All of the reliability issues aside, this is about as good as it gets if you are looking for a portable tablet style dvd player at a budget price. It comes with more stuff than most will likely ever use, or know how to use, lol. I like that it has an internal battery (some actually don't and AREN'T truly portable) and so far I have been able to get about 3.5 hrs out f mine on the battery. Good for the car or the plane or whatever. The sound is loud. Louder than most actually. The car "bag" is okay. It works but nothing fancy and yes you do have to the dvd player out of the bag to load it. The car charger cable is decent but likely too short for many. I have a MINI Cooper so no problem for my daughter in the back seat in a small car. The ear phones (both included pairs) are useless and uncomfortable. Other people said this was so and I assumed they were just being picky. Nope, the earphones are that bad, lol. I like that two people can plug in earphones separately though. Also this dvd player can be used as a monitor for your portable games or other items since it had video in and comes with the cables. I haven't even mentioned all the extra stuff this comes with. Remote, remote batteries, indoor charger, aux sound cable and more...Outstanding!

One thing to keep in mind is the form factor. Do you really need or want the tablet style? I did and love it, especially for the back of the car headrest, but you may not and may be better off with the clam shell style depending on what and where you intend to use it.

So we will see if this one lasts more than a year...or a month...

Fits my needs perfectly!

I got a DVD recorder and this DVD player so I could record and watch all my shows during my workouts at the gym. I've had it for just over a month now and use it 4-5 nights a week. It does everything I wanted it for. I probably run it about 1.5 to 2 hours each time. So far, I have not had the battery run out on me. I just make sure it has a full charge each day. I wish the buttons were laid out a little differently on the remote (play button close to the ff/rew button). I've dropped the remote a few times because the buttons aren't close enough to ff thru the commercials and hit play without shifting the remote in my hand. And I haven't figured out how to get to the dvd menu using the buttons on the front.

I bought velcro straps to be able to secure the bag onto the different machines at the gym since the straps on the bag aren't long enough. I haven't tried it, but they are probably ok for attaching to the headrest in a car.

No complaints about the picture, but I have to make sure the player is at the right angle to be able to see the screen.

I thought $89 was a bit pricey, but I'm happy with it b/c it's exactly what I was looking for and it seems like it's the only tablet style portable player on the market right now.

Great for the Price

We were planning a trip to visit my parent's house for Christmas, which would entail an 8 hour drive each way. This player was a godsend for keeping my 1 1/2 year old daughter at least somewhat amused. Since the trip, we've used it every day to and from day care. She's at the point that she gets annoyed if you pick her up without it. But enough about my situation, on to the player.

For the price it seems to me to be one of the best options. We've used it for three months and have not had any problems (except one little one that I'll get to). We've used it exclusively in the car although we do sometimes bring it into restaurants and the battery has never died on us - admittedly we've never run it longer than about an hour and a half without being on a car charger.

As others have mentioned it's got a great set of accessories - the seat back mount is not fancy and could be improved a bit, but it's certainly functional and does the job. It's also true that you have to remove it from the seat back mount before changing the dvd, but that is a relatively minor inconvenience especially since we don't routinely change dvd's while driving. My only complaint is that sometimes the machine produces a high-pitched whine. We've discovered that it is usually due to the dvd not quite being seated correctly. We've addressed it by opening and closing it a few times and it seems to take care of itself.

This is my only experience with a table style player so there could be better ones out there, but I've recommended this one to friends based on the value.

Wish I picked something else now.

I bought 2 of these for my 5 year old twins. Thought the tablet style would be better. Seemed more durable I thought. As mentioned before the cases are difficult to use as you have to take the unit out of the case to change the dvd so we don't even use them. One of the players was defective and making a loud clicking noise and only playing certain dvds some of the time. Amazon was great and the 30 day return policy was very smooth. Only used the replacement once so far but seems fine. The original has been working all along. The screens scratch easily. The battery life only lasts about 1 1/2 movies which isn't what others have said so I was disappointed. The head phones are good and my daughter actually likes them better than others we've tried. The menu and navigation is a little difficult for them and they usually need help. If I had it to do over I would buy a flip top. I'm not sure now why I was set on tablet style.

This has been a great little portable DVD player. The battery life is great, It is durable enough to let the kids use in the back seat of the car while traveling. I have not had any problems with this product at all.

The sound is small, but the sound was small on all of these portable type players without head phones. I do wish it would remember where the movie was playing when you shut it off. It always starts the movie from the beginning.

I am very happy with it.
