Newer versions much better

Nov 9, 2008 - By netgarou (San Francisco, CA)

I bought this when hard drive docks were just coming out. At the time, they only had USB connections, but nowadays you can get ones with eSATA as well. DEFINITELY get the newer eSATA ones. USB is painfully slow and inefficient for large data transfer.

Other Cons: the PCB underside of the drive faces away from the flip-down shield, which I think negates the purpose of the shield. The builtin USB hub seemed nice at first, but I never ended up using it. = money wasted.

I recommend one of the newer versions, such as made by iStarUSA and others, that has USB,eSATA, and SD card reader.

excellent product

I'm glad I got this. Its easy to change out the hard drive. It sits on the desk and, with my Macbook Pro and Time Machine, does automatic backups. It is about the most inexpensive way to house an external hard drive. The quality is excellent, too.

External SATA Solution

Sep 20, 2008 - By KYGentelman (BlueGrass State)

Thermaltake products are top of the line. If you have more than 1 SATA you need to buy enclosures for, this is the answer. Not only does it save you $$ on enclosures it makes it easier to utilize several HDDs. It opens up a whole new avenue for storage. The only thing I would suggest is snap around cases to protect the HDDs since they weren't designed to be handeled. It's like having naked HDDs. Great Product. I've been a Tiger Direct customer for years and have recently found that Amazon is consistantly cheaper on their electronics across the board.
