Polk I-Sonic

(4 out of 5) by Vernon T. Roach on Mar 28, 2009
This is not your normal clock radio. This is a premium stereo system. My first minor issue with this unit is that it has too much bass at the lowest bass setting. This may not be a problem if you live alone. Second, I wish there was a retractable antenna on it.

Great Sound but Controls could be better..

The system is really excellent and has fantastic sound quality. The I-Sonic blows the Bose systems out of the water effortlessly, and has far more functionality, with
an input for an auxilliary device, direct port for satellite radio antenna, etc. The only issue I have with the system, and the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is due to the limited access to the alarm functions. You literally have to use the small remote control to select, change, and ultimately turn on and off the alarm functions, which doesnt make any sense. Of course, there is a snooze button so if you want to snooze and not turn the system off once the alarm sounds, you're in business. Despite this, it is a fantastic system, well worth purchasing!

Great Support - Greatly Needed

(2 out of 5) by Alice on Feb 2, 2009
Hi, I had one for two years. During that time, i sent it back to be repaired and then to be exchanged for a new one and that one was sent in for repair and then exchanged for another new one. This last one, i sent in and they sent me my entire [s/h, tax] purchase amount back.

Third defective Polk device in a row -- will never buy again.

(1 out of 5) by R. Taylor on Jan 8, 2009 (Arlington, Virginia, USA)
I will say this radio sounds great, and I love HD radio.

But we had two problems right out of the box, one fixable, one a major defect:

1) We couldn't navigate the iPod with the remote or the device controls.
Apparently that is fixable via a firmware upgrade which Polk will mail you on a USB stick. That's a real pain for functionality I expected out of the box, but I guess it's good that you can get future firmware upgrades too.

2) The defect? The big "down" button didn't work. E.g., we were able to bump the treble up-up-up ... and there it stuck. No way to bring it back down.

Since this is the THIRD TIME IN ROW* we've had a defective Polk device we are returning it for a refund and will never buy Polk again.

*We bought the original version of the i-Sonic, which had a CD player. It didn't work (CD player froze, and clock display corrupted) so we returned it for repairs. When we got it back, it still didn't work right (CD player loaded really really slowly) so we returned it for refund. We bought the ES2 thinking the problems were all in the CD player. Apparently not!

What a hassle. I'm sure Polk speakers are great but I will never buy another of their products.

This is a really nice device. The HD radio works quite well and the iPod dock is top notch. Highly recomended.
