Give yours a full workout before warranty expires!
The device we got was a lemon, so reading other reviews is advisable for a balanced idea of what you may be getting. As VHS becomes obsolete, and DVD looking more and more like it will soon follow suit, perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised that we should have had trouble. The 6 month warranty is another indicator that Samsung doesn't have much faith in their product. The device plays VHS just fine, but is very inconsistent with DVDs. Because we got it for use in a school, and it appears to work fine with shorter-length (20-30 minute) DVDs we didn't realize the problem until teachers wanted to use it for longer (>30 minute) DVDs. Now we are stuck with a piece of electronic waste and need to get a replacement. Our Samsung DVD-VR357 Tunerless DVD Recorder and VCR Combo has worked with all features without complaint, which is why we chose this device. If you get the DVD-V9800 (or any combo player for that matter), make sure you give it a full workout before the warranty expires!

stopped working after 5 months
Stopped working after 5 months . Out of nowhere it stopped playing DVD's.
Labor and shipping to fix the unit would be more than buying a new one. I am very dissapointed.

Samsung DVD/VCR Combo Player
The player works great. It rewinds & fast forwards very fast & has a counter for the VCR when fast forwarding, it counts by the hour on the tapes. When in pause mode (vcr) after 5 min it will start to play again. The remote is easy to use, not complicated at all. Thinking about getting a second one for future use.

Good product
Would have rated 5 stars except for the remote control. It has rather sharp edges along the length of the remote, almost as though the edges were not filed. A small anoyance but uncomfortable to hold. Again, the main dvd/vcr player itself is better than good.

Junk - Samsung you should be ashamed
I would expect this type of quality from the store brand dvd player, not Samsung. My player stopped sending 5.1 audio to my stereo receiver in just under 9 months. It now only plays 2 channel stereo sound. For some reason DTS 5.1 plays correctly but regular 5.1 simply stopped working. I also have to change the upconvert settings every time I turn the player on as it switches them back whenever the player is turned off. After reading the rest of the reviews on here now I'm sorry that I didn't do more research. Samsung makes great products but even they slide through some shoddy products.
