VCR did not work from the beginning
My old VCR was beginning to "eat" tapes, and I wanted a product that would combine a good DVD and a VCR player. After extensive study, I warned my wife that finding a good VCR player is a crap shoot, but this model seemed the best choice...
I LOST.
The VCR player could fast forward and rewind, but WOULD NOT PLAY. I spent about 1/2 hour with tech support and they told me to send it back for repair. I opted to return it to Amazon. That process was simple and straightforward, a benefit of buying from Amazon.
Just a general suggestion: wean yourself off VCR tapes (I immediately replaced $50 of children's videos my son wants to keep with DVDs).

I win the booby prize!
I think I win the prize for the quickest "die" -- I watched exactly 4 hours of DVD and the unit no longer works. I bought it in July of 2008 and only now installed it, so I effectively took 5 crisp 20s and set them on fire. I am going to try to work with Amazon for at least a partial credit. Count me as another person who thinks this product deserves a negative # of stars.

Total piece of junk
We bought 10 of these for our school. After 4 months, one stopped playing(loading) DVDs. Called Samsung and they said labor warranty expired. Guess what....another one started doing the same thing. Now we have to have TWO UNITS...one to play the VCR and a newly purchased (NOT SAMSUNG) unit to play DVDs. WE WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER SAMSUNG PRODUCT. 2 out 10 units did not last 6 months!

broke after a month
One month after buying this product, and after playing dvd's for approximately four hours, I can no longer play dvd's on it. It wont read any dvds I put in. Unfortunately I threw away my warranty so I have little recourse. I would rate this product zero stars were that option available.

Still can't get the VHS to work
The DVD part of the player works fine but I've never been able to get the VHS part to work at all. It just refuses to play tapes and I have no idea how to make it work. I'm not a novice with electronic equipment, and I even read the manuals and setup instructions, but I've failed utterly to be able to play a VHS tape with this unit. We have a huge library of tapes and we can't watch them unless I wire up our ancient player that doesn't up-convert. I had the unit sitting in the box for about 3 months before I finally hooked it up so I can't send it back to Amazon for a refund, but I'm very disappointed with the unit. Samsung makes great TVs but it appears their components are poor to mediocre at best.
