A big improvement over the original Kindle cover

(4 out of 5) by G. Bernal on May 26, 2008 (Southern CA USA)
...pretty close to perfect. The on/off switches in the back are not exposed, but the upper right corner has an elasticized band that allows you to pull the Kindle away from the case to use the on/off switches. If you find that yours is a bit tight in the upper right corner, leave it off, it is secure with just the other 3 corners in place and you can easily access the switches on the back with no fear of it falling out as in the original case provided.

I recommend this nice deep red. It is not too bright, just bright enough to make it easy to spot your Kindle anywhere as opposed to the black one, especially in your luggage or car.

The best feature is the left side pockets. There are 5 of them - one large enough for a CD or pad of paper, 2 medium and 2 small pockets to accommodate flash drive, SD cards, business cards, or a small eyeglass-cleaning cloth for the screen. Very handy, even for money, license or CCards/medical card. If you have a doctor's appt., no need to carry anything else.

The left side also folds back, as some have wondered, and fits comfortably in the hand. When it is folded back the left side creates a ledge for your right thumb so you are not accidentally hitting the next-page button, a big plus! The pencil holder sits to the left side of the Kindle and can not scratch the screen or get in the way. It does not have a stand, but I don't particularly need that. If you need a stand get something else.

Update - Jan 2009: I had given this a 4-star rating because the price was higher than it is now and I felt it was overpriced, however, it is now $30, which is a fair price for this and I would change the 4 star rating to 5 star if the site allowed me to. I love mine and have not regretted buying it even 'though I paid more for it at the time. Another thing, this imitation-leather is soft enough it feels like real leather, but has no offensive odors as some leather-owners have complained about. It also has a red interior, whereas the real leather has a grey interior.

A sexy Kindle cover

(4 out of 5) by Marilee on Jun 8, 2008 (Florida USA)
My cover arrived yesterday, 5 days after ordering, even though I hadn't received an acknowledgment of my order, which had worried me.

The slightly muted red is sexy, classy and distinctive. It's a bit lighter in weight than the standard Kindle cover, and not as padded, but I think it will protect my reader as it should. I chose to go with the artificial leather so that the cover can be wiped clean and shouldn't stain as leather sometimes does. Fortunately, it doesn't look cheap or artificial. The stitching is uniform.

I like that the stiff cover folds back on the left a bit wider than the standard cover, by maybe 3/8 of an inch, which makes gripping the Kindle easier, and because of it's lighter weight, should not be as fatiguing to hold. It's easy to tuck the tab into the back while folded and out of the way while holding.

The pockets are snug fits and won't hold much, but it's a convenience to have them available for an item or two, such as an extra SD card, credit card, pass, ID, bit of paper, whatever. I suggest using the loop holder for an automatic [with a clip] pencil, instead of a potentially staining pen. It's your choice, of course.

When closed, the cover is slightly slimmer than the standard cover, though I think I may cut a piece of felt or other light padding material to slip inside over the face of the Kindle when carrying it around.

I agree with reviewer Bernal that the price point seems high for what you get, but currently, there's nothing out on the market to compete except for the leather covers costing $20 more. Consumers can make their own choice as to whether this good looking Kindle cover is worth buying, as this isn't a necessary item. But my Kindle is with me all the time, so I appreciate the eye appeal and it's convenience.

Now, to see how well it holds up in usage.

very nice

(4 out of 5) by Lori on Sep 18, 2008 (Connecticut)
This is much better than the original kindle cover. The color is deep bright red and it feels really good to hold on to it and have no worries that your kindle will slip out. The reason that I gave it a four star is because it was very snug to put the kindle in but I finally got it in. It was so snug that when I lift the right corner of my kindle to shut the power switch off on the back, the upper left corner tab was applying pressure to the "previous page" side bar which ended up losing my place in the book. What I did was cut a small slit about 5mm. on the bottom of that upper left tab next to the stitches and lift the slit up a little to relieve the pressure from the "previous page" side bar. Now I have no problem. They should have made the upper left tab slightly bigger to prevent this. I have the "new and improved" m-edge cover that is light grey in the inside. The front and back cover is very firm and padded enough to protect your kindle. You can fold the cover back and slide the scrap in the inside between the front and back cover when folded back. I highly recommend that you DO NOT store a pen in the pen loop as you are risking a chance of ink leaking on a very expensive investment. I stuck a paper clip in there instead which does not touch the front of the kindle so it won't scratch it. You need the paper clip in case your kindle freezes and you need to reset it. Pockets on the left inside are very small and again, I would NOT put anything in those pockets bigger than a piece of paper or a micro fiber cloth to wipe your screen. You don't want anything bulky hitting your kindle when you close it. The purpose to get a really good cover such as this is to protect your kindle as well as holding it to read. It is not a purse. Maybe if the pockets were on the outside..........then you could store misc. things with it. I wasn't too thrilled about the price until I received it and now I'm glad that I bought it. I think it's worth the $$$.This is more of a girl color not sure that a guy would like this color.

Does the job well.

(5 out of 5) by J. W. Garrett on Aug 5, 2008 (Troy Alabama)
I bought the cover at the time I bought the Kindle. The cover is a very tight fit when you first put the Kindle in. I had to pull on the tabs to loosen them for the Kindle to fit. It covers the Kindle very well. It is a little expensive but it is also protecting a $400.00 investment. I keep my Kindle in my purse and the cover protects it very well. It also makes it easier to hold the Kindle. I also use the case as an stand for the Kindle. Open the case, use the front cover as a prop kind of like a picture frame. It is not real sturdy but it works for reading in bed. It does add a little weight to the Kindle but that is not a real problem for me. If you use the on/off button instead of the sleep mode you might not like the case because you can not access the button while it is in the case. You are able to access the charging slot and the other areas at the bottom with it in the case. The inside has a swade finish and mine is starting to ge a little dirty.

Nice case but not stiff enough

(3 out of 5) by pilotdrh on Jul 6, 2008 (Alpharetta, GA)
I like this case and I always carry my Kindle in it. I use a Kindle messenger bag and this fits nicely in the pocket once I had it stretched a little. I cut the flap from the cover to get it to fit. The case is great in holding the Kindle in place but the front and back are not as stiff as the original cover. I'm still looking for a case to provide more protection.
