SLI Best choice !!

Mar 27, 2008 - By Bruno Freitas (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

I definatelly recomed this one, specially if you are looking for the beneffit of making a SLI at your machine, as I did on mine, without spending and arm and a leg for a 9800 or to a 8800GTX ot ULTRA...

I had a 8800GTS 320MB, to which I exchanged for 2 of these superb cards..
The space at the case now is much better, since it only uses one slot...
But since I got 2 working with SLI, I decided, just to be on the safe side, to put a passive fan to get the hot air out of their way..

The results on other games that I had on my PC were impressive...
Crysis now (which everyone know is the Today's Resource HOG game) runs smoothly with almost all the specs on VERY HIGH...
I am running Vista 64bit, with 4gb of RAM, AMD x2 64 5200 (2.6ghz)...
I shall mention that the bottleneck of my PC now is pretty much the processor, since these card gave new life to the games..

At Call of Duty 4, the impressive results came with a much better quality of the game details, since the frame rate remained pretty much the same as with my old 8800 GTS ..

Higher resolutions will be achieved without a glitch by using the SLI..

With this I mentioned just about 2 games that are a lot machine demanding and indicated that the performance gain is worth the buy..

And before I forget, if you are going to do a SLI with these cards, make sure you got enough Power Supply.. I am using a 850W Real Power PFC Active... If you only have a 400W, you should consider upgrading.. for SLI, obviously...

Go with this one and you will have enough fire power for the most demanding games for quite a long time (due to to the way these cards get outdated pretty fast nowadays..)

The best Bang for the Buck you will find... specially for the SLI !
All reviews around the internet will show you the 2 of this card togheter, pass the 8800GTX (which is only one card..) but is just about $100 or more on your Final price Tag...

And do not forget to get the latest drivers from NVIDIA, since they are upgrading all the time specially the SLI performance for this new series of cards (9 Series)

Inherent hardware flaws

Apr 14, 2008 - By A. Harvey (New York City)

Before I returned this product, I was running two of these in SLI. On some games, the 9600GT ran perfectly with no errors. On about half of games both old and new, however, the "black screen of death" would occur. Thousands of other people have the same issue: it's not a problem with the drivers or the motherboard, or the power supply or the CPU or the PCIe bus, but with the hardware itself. I've been hearing that other brands besides eVGA have the same problem so it's Nvidia that's putting out the defective hardware. The only solution that worked temporarily was to underclock the card, but that sort of defeats the purpose of upgrading to one of the latest graphics cards, and mind you the cards still crapped out after an hour or so. The 9800 GX2 runs perfectly, however. No complaints there.

Great card for WoW

Mar 27, 2008 - By Jay's Opinion

I just upgraded from an Nvidia 7950GT. I don't play much games at all, pretty much only World of Warcraft. The 7950GT was fine for that, but I would use Nvidia's control panel to bypass the video settings on WoW and there was still a lot of slow down with all the settings maxed out so I decided to give this one a try.

Lets start off by talking about installation. My 7950GT didn't have a fan, it had a passive cooling system with the pipes and the fins that took up two slots. It was quiet - but it took up two slots. I assumed this card would too but surprisingly it only took up one slot. The fan that is attached to it is not thick. Instead of shooting the air out underneath as many of the older cards do, they have it passing air out the side of the card. It is either coming out the side or sucking in the side - but either way it is not taking the slot space underneath the card. For some reason, installing this card was a monumental pain in the butt for me. It is long and was a tight fit in my small case. It took me about ten minutes to get it in properly but that is probably just me. Normally I can get a card in 20 seconds. Since this was a bit longer and the fit was tighter I actually had to clean up the wires in my case and move them aside.

Once installed, I turned on the computer and did notice a definite increase in noise from my other card which did not use a fan. But I only heard the fan from this new card whirring for a few seconds during start up before it quit spinning. Even when playing WoW with all the settings maxed out on Nvidia's control panel (AntiAliasing x 16 - Antitrospic 16Q - 1920 x 1200 resolution which is my monitor's max but not the cards and everything else cranked up) the fan still did not come on. I am assuming that the fan comes on when the card is getting hot and working hard but apparantly WoW can't make it come on. So the card for me is dead quiet. Even if it were spinning, it is not so loud that it would interfere or bother me personally as I believe the speakers at any volume would drowned it out.

The Nvidia control panel no longer works as well as it did when my old card was installed. I looked online and others had this problem when upgrading there cards. The problem is that it gets stuck while opening. Originally I thought it did not work and looked online and saw others had this problem. I accidently discovered that the program was not actually stuck and not responding - it just takes a good 4 minutes to open up now and has a bunch of new features that is did not previously have. I obviously need to look into fixing this but in the event any of you buy this card and your old control panel no longer works - just let it stay open for a few minutes and see if it finally connects.

Overall - I am extremely pleased with this card. Again, I only play WoW but I have it turned up as high as it goes through the control panel which is much more than WoW control panel and it runs flawlessly and the card doesn't even get worked up enough for the fan to turn on after hours of play. The price is great, and this easily runs circles around the 7950GT I had installed.

Budget Purchase - Amazing Performance

Apr 7, 2008 - By Edgar Coronado (Panama)

Cute presentation, amazing performance, budget purchase.

Just when I was going to buy a 3870 ATI, the 9600GT was realeased and the first reviews were enough to change my mind.

eVGA is a recognized brand that make great products.
