HD reception very poor!

(3 out of 5) by Steve G. Holub on Jan 18, 2009 (Lakeland, Fla. 33809)
I've had the AHD39 for 2mos. now and I'm very upset with the HD reception. When you have a strong station the HD along with the Surr. Sound is very impressive and pleasing. I am between Tampa and Orlando and the stations drift in and out and you can hear the difference and it's very upsetting. I'm thinking of buying another radio or find and RF amp. to increase the signal if they make one. I would NOT recomend this radio even though I did a lot of spec. study and this was of better spec's than some! I struck out. Do get a radio with a HD rec. and Surr. Sound because it is well worth the swirling music and that spatial high you get in your head when you hear some of your favorite sets.

Great Features for the price, but...

FINAL UPDATE: Correction, after FIVE weeks I am still driving around with a hole in my dash. I don't think I have EVER experienced worse customer service than that from JVC. After many calls and e-mails, they finally agree that it should be replaced instead of repaired, so what do they do? They take 4 days to ship it, and then ship it slow ground. ANOTHER WEEK I have to wait now, bringing the grand total to over a month. What a piece of junk. No WONDER this sad pathetic company is going under. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY unless you want headaches

REVIEW UPDATE: Do NOT but this unit! Three months after purchase it developed a loud annoying clicking problem every time I play or eject a CD. I have now learned why JVC has an unsatisfactory BBB report. 2 1/2 weeks later I am still driving around with a hole in my dash and no idea when I will see my car stereo returned. Their CS has been HORRIBLE. STRONG SUGGESTION: Buy another brand

Overall this is a great car stereo/CD player. It's one of the few that has HD radio Built in AND an external input jack. The sound is great. Were it not for two flaws, it would be near perfect. One: I don't know WHAT they were thinking regarding the display, but it's one of the WORST I've seen. Useless in the daylight, you can't even see it, and there's no way of seeing a clock AND the track names. The other problem seems to be build quality. I've had this 3 months and already it has to go for service. It's developed a loud clicking noise in the CD mechanism every time I turn the unit on. Better than my old Sony, but these things need to be improved. Follow-up: JVC seems to offer some poor CS, too. You have to ship the defective unit back at YOUR OWN expense, or else drive it to one of their remote service centers. Will probably be my last JVC, there's enough competition out there where companies should know better and provide better CS
