Outstanding head unit

(5 out of 5) by smarc on Jun 4, 2008 (Akron OH USA)
I bought this to replace my 5 year old Pioneer which sounded OK but they hadn't worked out the Sirius connection right. I also wanted the USB/Ipod input. As soon as I installed the unit I realized that this unit was a major improvement over the old unit. The sound is crisp and excellent - it is clearly better than the previous unit. There is an MP# sound expander which actually seems to work. The USB cable works perfectly and controls my son's ipod to boot. I have a 32GB flash drive in it right now with 93 folders full of music. I can put it on random for all 2000 songs. The display is a marked improvement over before and I can see the channel, time and the song name all at the same time (previously this didn't work right on Pioneer units). They solved the "function" problem. The graphics available are also tasteful. I also noted that they fixed a major problem - previous units had very bright controls that glared at night. This unit is subdued with quiet lighting of the controls. Thus it looks really great especially at night. The only negative is that with so many options it can get a bit complex. I would rate this with six stars if there were that many as I am that pleased with it.

Excelent Head Unit

(5 out of 5) by Manuel Jimenez on May 2, 2008
I bought this head unit to replace my Pioneer DEH-P580MP, which have been performing rather well for about 2 years.

I wasn't really expecting anything better save the USB port, which was the main reason why i decided on this unit. However, i am truly amazed at the improved sound quality and detail this unit add to MP3 files, maybe is because of the hi volt preouts, maybe because of the flexibility of the 7-band EQ (over the traditional 3-band EEQ), the low pass and high pass filters (which now have a broader range of frequencies to choose from), or because of the Advanced Sound Retriever (ASR) function. This unit is really really worth the price.

About the ASR, I really was a bit skeptical about its functionality, primarily by the fact that my old unit features Bit Media eXpander, which is advertised as an aid in improving sound quality for MP3, however, ASR have worked really well with my MP3, the sound difference can be heard immediately while switching it On and Off. It definitely beats their previous sound enhancement feature for MP3, namely Bit Media eXpander (BMX).

I highly recommend this unit, for the price i think it delivers more than expected.

Audio Setup: 1 pair of CDT Audio CL-61A (6 1/2), 1 pair of Beyma 6x9 Speakers (rear), 2 kicker CompVR 12" Subs in a sealed enclosure, 1 Alphasonik PMA-6004 4 channel Amplifier (75Wx4 RMS), 1 Pioneer 750 Watts 2 Channel Amplifier for the subs.

Great head unit

I've been buying and installing stereos in my cars for over 10 years. I care much more about sound quality and basic features than flash or bling, which it seems was all you could get in car stereos for a couple years. This is probably the nicest sounding, and most "intelligent" head unit I've ever purchased. It has great sound that is very customizable.

I use it with an external Eclipse amp, and being able to turn off the Pioneer's internal amp saves energy. The illumination is nice and mellow. The USB music player controls work flawlessly...even with my new iphone 3G. I can browse my entire library, or just shuffle the whole thing...all while it keeps it charged.

There's always room for improvement, but the unit does everything I could ask it to do.

Money well spent.

I bought my first pioneer audio piece well over 8 years ago, and it is still kicking great to this day. In fact, I bought an entire pioneer system, 3 amps, 2 sets of component speakers, 2 double voice coil woofers, an eq, yeh, the whole nine yards, and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I have also been a big fan of amazon, ever since my college days, which was not that long ago, and found the web site GREAT. I just wished that Amazon shipped to the Caribbean. We have money and would like to receive the respect that our business is valued.

Thanks again...

Good Head Unit

I am a novice with complex car audio systems. The sound of the Pioneer Premier DEH-P600UB is much better than my old car stereo even though I have the same speakers. I figured out the controls after working with them for a few hours. I was able to store and recall broadcast frquencies, but I cannot change them once they have been set. I will have to upgrade my iPod to play it on this car stereo. The worst feature is that I cannot see the display during the day due to sun glare.
