Very good product!!!

If you are planning to buy this I have only one thing to say: Please go ahead with confidence!!!

It works just as indicated and will play your ipod easily. You can't go wrong with Sony.

If you've a lot of albums, this is not the best choice

I have ~300 albums, if I want to play an album located in the middle of the list (sorted alphabetically), I have to spin the wheel selector a lot of times! If it keeps taking so much time to select my album, one of these day I'm gonna crash in the back of a truck.

Everything else works just fine!

Great deck for the price; possible incompatibility with my iTouch?

(4 out of 5) by Jeff L on Mar 2, 2009 (Chapel Hill, NC USA)
I am a big fan of these SONY XPLOD decks, as they are inexpensive, solid replacements for factory stereos without the need to upgrade speakers as well. I purchased this deck recently to upgrade the stereo system in my 2002 Subaru Outback. It does what it's supposed to do. It's got an attractive interface, the sound through the Subaru's factory speakers is excellent (in my opinion) with this deck, and I like the iPod connectivity through the dedicated USB connection so that my iTouch can rest in the glovebox and be controlled through the Sony deck.

My only complaint with this deck is that my generation of iTouch (version 2, I believe) is not fully compatible with the SONY deck. (The instruction manual from Sony indicates this, but it was not evident from the website.) Nonetheless, I've found that I can sporadically control playback of audio on the iTouch through the Sony deck, it's just not consistent.

If I could consistently count on being able to control my iTouch through the Sony deck interface, I'd happily give this deck 5 stars, no question. The only reason I give it four stars is that, in my particular case, it doesn't seem to be compatible with my iTouch. But feature-wise, in terms of attractiveness, ease of use and installation, and certainly price-wise, it's a great car stereo, and I'll tolerate the occasional hiccup b/c it really is a great value for the money.

I had heard that Sony was sub-par in the Car Electronics department, so I was a bit nervous when the guy at the car stereo store recommended this deck, but I couldn't be happier. It was a little finicky at first: it would have trouble reading even brand new CDs, but now it works fine. (Somewhat ironically, the problems stopped about the time the warranty ran out.) The deck, when hooked up to my iPod, is actually more user-friendly than the iPod itself because, when scrolling through lists (artists, albums, etc.) and I come to the end, this deck will cycle back to the beginning automatically, whereas on the iPod itself you have to reverse direction. And the Quick Browse feature is really handy. Highly recommended.
