So Long Mighty Mouse!

(5 out of 5) by Joe R on Jan 22, 2009 (Fort Washington, MD USA)
After years of faithful reliance on Apple mice I finally became fed up with the continuing need to clean the scroll ball on my wireless Mighty Mouse just to keep it working properly. But choosing a replacement was no easy task. I read tons of mouse reviews and user comments only to conclude that there's no one perfect mouse. Even after I had narrowed my choice down to the Logitech MX Rev Cordless Laser mouse I kept running across just as many user comments slamming it as I did ones praising it.

Well, I went ahead an bought the MX Rev anyway and am very happy that I did. I got the MX Rev for Apple Mac from Amazon and it has made me regret that I stuck with the Mighty Mouse as long as I did. The MX Rev/Mac works beautifully for me. It took me a few days to decide exactly which configuration best suited my needs, but since then it's been smooth sailing all the way. It's by far the best mouse I've ever had in all my years of computing.

Very nice mouse IF and only IF you...

(3 out of 5) by Ronald D. Lanham on Mar 10, 2009 (CA, USA)
__DO__ BUY THIS MOUSE __BUT__ (a warning to Mac users)...

I am only posting this review in an attempt to save others from the hours of problems I have had... and since I think Amazon is one of the __very best__ internet 'stores' I would not like you to have to return the mouse as 'broken' simply because you can not make the MX Revolution work. Also I am rating this mouse with only 3 stars because I have wasted so much time getting it to work. The mouse deserves 4 1/2 stars but the software driver Logitech makes available deserves less than zero stars... consequently 3 stars. Logitech's software is __extremely__ limited, and __incredibly__ buggy. Do not take my word for it... read the reviews on Amazon's site about Logitech's software and go to Logitech's own forums and see all of the horrible things users have to say about the drivers.

WARNING FOR MAC USERS!!! You CAN get this mouse to work beautifully BUT...

In my hours of troubleshooting... ONLY if you are willing to purchase USB Overdrive will you be able to do this. I'm very serious and I have absolutely no business or financial relations with USB Overdrive <[...]

It is the ONLY driver that I have found that will reassign all but one of the buttons. (The 'Search' button on the top is not coded as a mouse so unless you use an app like ControllerMate that can NOT be used WITH USB Overdrive installed... you can kiss the top 'Search' button off... i.e. totally useless). And ControllerMate... though a great driver... will take you an afternoon to learn how to use it (no kidding... complex). USB Overdrive will even allow you to map the tilt-scroll wheel as buttons so you will have more 'buttons' on the top. LCC will not and SteerMouse will not... that is... you will believe that they did but the settings will not stick.

I spent hours trying to get Logitech Control Center to work... don't waste your time. LCC is the proprietary software that comes with the mouse... oh... except for in the case of the Mac driver... it does not even come on the included CD... only the PC software does... Mac users have to go to the Logitech website and download LCC. No big deal if it worked... but it does not.

Even SteerMouse's remapped button-commands do not stick and when a button is pushed it may or may not even be highlighted in SteerMouse's preference pane window. So unless you already know what button number SteerMouse will give your command... you will have to do a lot of trial-and-error (i.e. moving back-and-forth between the SteerMouse window and how it will affect the action you perform by clicking on something in the OS).

I have owned a Logitech MX 1000 for years which has been an excellent mouse, but it is no longer available from Logitech and starts at around [...] on the internet. I am a professional digital artist <[...]>. so I really do know my mice (as well as Wacom tablets). I say this so you will realize Logitech does make excellent mice though their drivers have always been pathetic (again... do a search of the reviews on Amazon and Logitech's own forum and you will see that I am not exaggerating).

I hope this review saves purchasers AND Amazon nightmares and RMAs (Return Merchandise Authorizations).
I don't recall ever posting a review before at Amazon so I hope the time I have taken to post this lengthy review helps.

I would say 'Good Luck'... but if you follow my advice you will not need it.

Enjoy!

Best mouse ever!

(5 out of 5) by W. C. McCormack on Feb 3, 2009 (Portsmouth, NH, USA)
I've had a number of cordless mice over the years and this one is the best I've ever used. The fit (for a right hander only - don't get it if you're in need of a left handed mouse...) is outstanding and the features are numerous, easy to understand and easy to use. It's a snap to set up, and the battery life is excellent so far. It's been a week since I had it in the charging cradle, and I've got 4 bars out of 5 left on my battery indicator. The Logitech software is great, and control changes are very simple and are geared specifically for the Mac OS. The charging unit is unobtrusive and I like the idea of being able to store and charge the mouse off my desktop when not in use. Also I bought Logitech 920-000924 DiNovo Edge Rechargeable Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac at the same time, and love it too. They are a great pair!

the mouse everyone needs

(5 out of 5) by William J. Norton on Feb 11, 2009 (charlotte, nc United States)
this is a great product. all Mac user need to save their penny's and get this mouse. it is a real time saver!!!

with all the programable options, this new mouse is a "revolution." it is so flexible that the need to recall and use the function keys can be greatly reduced (as you decide), through programing of the mouse. the functions you desire to assign the six mouse buttons will shorten and ease your workload and increase your Mac fun

The Best

(5 out of 5) by Tom on Apr 15, 2009 (Flemington, NJ United States)
If you want a cordless mouse that's fully of features & works great, look no further. I ditched the Apple mouse in favor of this one and have never looked back. It's a bit pricey, but if your an Apple user, that's no surprise. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for and this is no exception. As a former PC user, having the right click back was a nice feature for me and being able to program the mouse buttons for the functions I use most was a real plus. It takes a little getting used to, especially the left side thumb wheel, but in a few sessions, it become second nature. All in all, a great product that will not disappoint.
