Pretty good, but only NTSC

(4 out of 5) by M. Johansson on May 22, 2008
Overall the best product for the price range right now (May 2008). I did a lot of research and is happy with the player. The only issues that I see are the difficulty bypassing the region code and the fact that it only plays NTSC DVDs (PAL won't work). This is a big problem with a portable DVD player if you are traveling internationally or have DVDs from around the world. It is pretty easy to convert, but takes time.

Disappointed, expected better from Sony

(4 out of 5) by Judicska on Nov 1, 2008 (NJ, USA)
First the good news. The sound , the picture , the performance is great.
Bad news: Doesn't play home made DVD-R discs. That was a surprise to me. Also it only plays Region #2 discs. I would have expected a portable DVD player to be global specially from Sony! (I was aware of this fact before I bought the unit)

A year has passed. We never knew we would be using it as much as we do. Knock on wood it still works great. No problems at all. Highly recommend it!

Be Careful with Sony's Poor Quality and Very Limited Warranty

(1 out of 5) by D. Yin on Sep 17, 2009 (Baltimore, MD)
Be VERY careful when you consider this product!!!

I bought a this Sony product less than six months ago.
During the past six months, I probably played with it for less than 20 times, if not less than 10 times.

A few weeks ago, it started to have problem: When a movie is played, the sound can be heard, but the picture is not shown on the screen.

I checked the warranty and found it only covers only 90 days on parts and 1 year on labor!
I contacted Sony support and its customer relationship department. The company kept talking about the warranty terms.
Indeed, it was my fault that I didn't pay much attention to Sony's warranty terms when I bought it, and I thought a Sony product (or any brand) would last at least a year or two. DVD and its related technologies are quite mature today.

Unfortunately, this Sony product doesn't last at all. With the price for a new one, I almost end up with a refurbished product even if I go through all the trouble of sending it to Sony and getting it fixed.

Be VERY careful when you choose a Sony product these days!

Vary bad sound

(3 out of 5) by lew on Nov 22, 2008 (Connecticut, USA)
Good video, but sound really ugly. Speakers are useless - 1950 telephone was producing better sound. There is no way to adjust sound characteristics (bass/treble), or I was not able find the way of doing this after month of experimenting. Average $20 CD player has at least "bass boost", not sating about more sophisticated tuning (especially Sony products).

Fortunately, I have full drawer of headphones, and I was able to select one that provides good compromise between low and end.
