Save your cash and go look elsewhere.

I bought this hard drive about six months ago, including a robust case to keep it from damage. Nevertheless, this piece of crap crapped out on me today after 6 months of use. I connected it to my fiancee's MacBook and 5 seconds after I connected it, it ejected itself and gave me an error message, soon after I tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the hard drive by using all of the supplied cables, USB, FireWire to no avail. I even tried to connect it to my MacBook Pro and nothing, nada. The little blue light would come on and the drive sounded like it was operating, but it simply wouldn't connect.

I found similar reviews online regarding this flimsy hard drive, which by the way scratches way too easily to be a hit or miss, but most of the negative reviews seem to indicate that this hard drive gives out eventually. Mind you, I used this drive very often though I took really good care of it, always putting it back on its case. I had backed up all of my information on it, now forever lost, irretrievable. Luckily I still have my files on my Mac, though I hate the naked feeling of not having a backup drive for my Mac.

Sam Hecht made two mistakes regarding this drive, the easily scratched cover and the choice of brand to put his name on. I made only one mistake, buying LaCie, but now I'm going to spend my money elsewhere on a hard drive that puts the emphasis on dependability, not looks. A couple of smashes proved my flimsy theory, damn thing split like a cooked clam.

Extremely Dissapointed

I have never had any problems with LaCie drives before but this drive routinely fails. When using firewire the non-ventilated plastic case overheats. The internal USB cable is flimsy and usually requires the use of another USB cable to power the drive. When transferring large files it tends to crash. If you are looking for a drive that needs to take heavy use, look elsewhere.

Terrific little hard drive!

I paid quite a bit more than the current price for my 250GB LaCie Little Disk and I have never regretted it. It has consistently been a great performer. What more can I say?

Good Backup Disk

Initialized easily for a Mac. Used software to make a backup disk. Disk very light and fast when using Firewire. The end cap makes this drive great for travel. The reliability of LaCie makes this a perfect backup drive.

Great

This LaCie hard drive is easy to setup, stylish, and can fit just about anywhere. I haven't had any connectivity problems, nor have I used the softward bundled on the drive--but I have connected the hard drive to Macs and PCs and it works perfectly.
