Convenience and utility

(5 out of 5) by Sammy C. Chung on Apr 21, 2008 (Boulder, CO USA)
I would say this would work very well for people who have a bunch of SATA drives from previous computers and want to conveniently access the information without having to switch it out from your computer hard drive bay or to buy an external hard drive enclosure. Now the issue is creating a hard drive bookshelf.

Great Item

I bought this to recover data from a laptop drive. I was able to do this, but then use the docking station for much more. You can easily plug in a 2.5" or 3.5" drive and hot swap them.

I now use this to take drives out of infected machines, scan them for virii, then put them back in the machine.
I also have a couple old SATA drives that I can now use as external drives for backup.

Sweet Product

Works perfectly, no problems at all. I have several 1 TB SATA drives that I use to store loads of junk I've collected over the years, and buying one enclosure after another became a pain in the you know what. Now when I want to grab something off a drive I just pick the drive, push it in through the slot on the top, turn it on and away you go. Now only if they sold external hard drive cases. So if you have lots of drives and don't want to buy lots of enclosures, pick up a hard drive docking station!

The only bad thing about it is that once you're done with the drive you should put it away immediately since leaving the drive out in the open air standing up vertically like that (rather than face down), the drive will collect lots of dust on the inside and you will be in bad sector heaven sometime soon. You can use a dust cover as well (which is what I do).

Great product!

I've seen other docking stations and needed one of my own. This one feels more substantial. Very easy to set up and use.

Versatile and worth it

I have this unit hooked up to my satellite DVR with a 3.5" 500GB HDD to store recordings. The first unit was bad out of box but replacement was one phone call away once tech support confirmed. (Thanks Amazon!)Painless except for the wait but it was cross shipped without incident.

I really like that it goes to sleep on it's own but wakes up when called upon almost instantly. A very well mannered device.
