Not Ready for Prime Time
(1 out of 5) by kaffeen on Oct 13, 2008 (Austin, Texas)This device is NOT ready for release or use by anyone. I spent two days with this device and found it extremely aggravating. It is not backward compatible with all the features found in the DSM-520. It has problems with network connectivity. It is not compatible with all media servers (i.e. PlayOn from MediaMall). It is buggy and does not perform all Media Center Extender functionality that one would expect from an extender. The UI is really just a folder system (I don't really care about this last point, but perhaps some may).
I usually stay away from D-link products as a rule. This does not mean every product they make is bad, however, I just have had very bad experiences with all their products that I happened to purchase. Add this one to the list. I can't say I will never buy a D-link product in the future, but this purchase was very discouraging and only reinforced my already low opinion of D-link.
If you want all these features with no hassles, I'd recommend the HP MediaSmart Connect X280N or the Popcorn Hour product (PH if your a hobbyist and willing to spend alot of time with the product, HP if you want something really easy to setup and works out of the box).

Do NOT buy this media center extender
(1 out of 5) by M. Schoenberg on Apr 13, 2008 (Washington, DC)I'll add more, but for now, check oput avsforums to see the mess that dlink has created here. I was a bleeding edge adopter on this and what a mistake. No one has gotten it to work out of box, not a one. Stay way clear of this.

Does not work as Media Extender
(1 out of 5) by Jon A on Apr 16, 2008 (NJ)This item does not work as media extender. After a 2 week wait received product and did everything possible to get it to work with my Vista Ultimate pc. Note I am an IT professional so the technology is not new to me in any way. I finally called D-Link tech suppport and after 3hrs with them was told to return it as it's defective. Reading the prior reviews I see that I'm not the only one with this issue. D-Link needs to fix this product below realeasing to public.

Deffective! Very poor Customer Service
